English Hyakuninisshu Karuta! You can play like Chihayafuru! This karuta is the traditional Japanese poetry card game using the 100 complete original Japanese poems from Ogura Hyakuninisshu, translated into English "wakas" (5+7+5; 7+7 syllables). Complete edition with cards no. 1-100. All cards have both the Japanese original poem with a unique illustration or text from the original Japanese karuta from Shodo in Kyoto, plus the English translation (by Clay Mac Cauley 1917) on the other side of the cards. The translation follows the 57577 waka form so you can read/sing it like the original Japanese waka melody. 70x100 mm, Box 120x170x45 mm Net weight 540g. This complete edition is packed in a stable box with a divider. Karuta is about listening and being fast. Players listen to a reader who reads an English translated Japanese short poem (waka) aloud. A part of what is being read can be found on a card laid in front of you. Quickly pick up that card before the others in order to win. Tip: Download the free iOS audio reader app (companion app for this game). You can use the reader app for practicing and also when you are only two persons and you need a reader. We have two reader apps. 1.Hyakuninisshu EN : This reader app sings the poems exactly like the Japanese wakas (original poems) are sung. 2.Read Hyakunin Isshu EN: This reader app is read normally. The app which is read is easier to understand but the app which is sung sounds more genuine like the original Japanese poems. The Android reader app is due to be published by late 2020 due to the new regulations Google made in November 2019.
