Great root powder, great texture. Just be sure to get the right color.
**Update**Updating my original review to 5 stars based on the excellent follow up from the seller. Seller created a color especially for my hair to have a better color match. It is perfect. She the photo of before and after included. Great blend and still allows me to wash it out as I am growing out my gray hair.**Original review**I really appreciate thorough reviews, so here is mine about Rootflage. I've used this product about 10 days before posting my review so I could share as much as possible. First let me share how I am using this product. I am growing out my natural gray hair. This transition process takes a long time, so I wanted to use the product to help blend the new growth (gray) with my current blonde hair. I wanted something temporary that I can easily wash out as my gray grows out.ApplicationThe product applies very easily. I tried two of the three recommended methods - directly from the container with the brush applicator attached, and then dipping the brush applicator into the product and applying. I actually preferred dipping the brush because I felt I had more control over how much product was applied to the hair and exactly where. I think using the dip method also helps reduce issues with product getting on the scalp, which gives a strange appearance when it does happen. Product on scalp - not good. The seller provides recommendations to help reduce product on scalp, which I tried - and I did find that after practicing with the product I got better at avoiding the scalp. Sometimes it just happens, and when it does, it is difficult to remove, but think this is one of those things that you get better at as you continue to use the product.CoverageI found that the name "rootflage" really is true with respect to coverage- it camouflaged, and it did so very well. The product did not totally cover my gray, but rather did an excellent job giving it a blended look. I honestly don't think anyone would notice that I had used a root powder. In fact, no one every mentioned it in 10 days of wear.WearThe first time I applied rootflage I did not wash my hair for two days after. It stayed in place with no issues. On day three, it really looked just like it did from the first day of application. I did change my hairstyle a couple of times during that time, so I did touch ups with rootflage in spots that did not show from a previous hair style, but that was to be expected. The wear totally exceeded expectations. Also, I did not notice any color transfer to my pillow. I was using the dark blonde/light brown color. I also found that the texture of the product in my hair did not bother me. It gave so extra volume and in my opinion, it feels better than most dry shampoos. If you are used to using a dry shampoo, I don't think you'll have any issues with the "feel" of rootflage.Color Matching / Customer ServiceColor matching is where I struggled some with this product. I bought the dark blonde/light brown shade. Based on the color swatches provided, this was the closest match for my blonde. And it was close - however it was too warm for my blonde and gives off a somewhat brassy appearance compared to my more ashy blonde.I remembered that the seller sent me an email after I placed my order that said, "We carry over 20 colors of Rootflage, so we should have the perfect shade for you! If the color you ordered is not a match, let us know. We feel confident that we can find the perfect shade of Rootflage for you."I reached out to the seller by way of email and mentioned this concern. The seller was very nice and requested a photo of my hair, which I provided. They responded via email with the following-"I think the cool blonde will be too light for your hair. If the light brown is too warm you can try a couple things:1. Try Golden Brown, it is less warm than light brown. I actually think it would work well, plus you can use it to fill in your eyebrows.2. Or you can buy a Blue Monday and mix some of it in with the light brown to cool it down."I really appreciated the advice on color. However, this resolution left me to take another chance and purchase another one (or two) products (at $20 each). I would have appreciated if the seller would have offered to send me a sample of the new recommended colors or even a discount code to purchase another color. In hindsight, I wish I would have contacted the seller before I purchased the product and asked for their recommendations on color upfront. This is a more expensive root powder than most on the market, so you want to get it right the first time or at least know there is some kind of guarantee in place to get the right color without having to buy more products at added expense.Overall, I really like this root powder. It blends into the hair well, it has a good texture, and you get better at applying with a little practice. As an aside, I also purchased the Purple Haze shade just for fun. It was just as easy to apply and did not stain my gray and washed out with no issues, so if you are looking for some color that is temporary, it's a great option.

Covers the gray
I love this product because it covers my gray between coloring beautifully. I used it around my hairline & it looks so natural. It will rub off so I’m careful about a lingering hug that may result in my hair rubbing on one’s shoulder. Still, I love it & a little goes a long way so I don’t have to buy as often & I can buy the powder without having to buy a new brush.

Great product if you follow these tips
I get my hair colored/roots touched up every 5 weeks. I’ve been using Rootflage for a few years to cover up grey between hair appointments. Due to the covid quarantine this is the longest I’ve gone without seeing my colorist (12 weeks), so I’ve been putting Rootflage to the test and it’s held up well. Being stuck at home, I decided to test its staying power. I applied on a Friday then avoided washing my hair until the following Tuesday. By Tuesday there was still decent coverage. In fact, had I not washed my hair I would have only needed to reapply a little to the hairline around my face where it washed off while washing my face in the shower over the last few days. How it works:The bottom portion of the container holds the very fine powder. There are holes in the top of the container to dispense powder to the base of the brush. For storage there's a small retractable "sleeve" that pulls up around the brush to compact the bristles together and essentially keeps the powder from coming through the holes, and allows you to easily put the lid on without bending and flaring the bristles. What I love about it:It covers very well and blends the grey with my color treated hair. It’s quick and easy to apply. It lasts for days.It looks natural.A little bit goes a long way so it lasts forever. What kept me from giving it 5 stars:It can be a little messy, so you may see a little bit (a fine dusting) on your shirt, arms, vanity/sink. I feel like the applicator could have been designed better, with smaller holes to dispense a little less at a time. See my tips below for how I manage this.It does transfer to some degree but honestly I didn’t notice it until I had to use more of it for additional coverage during covid quarantine. It got on my pillowcase and a bandana I used to pull my hair up, but washed out of both in a normal laundry cycle - no stain treatment required. If you work up a good sweat it will transfer when you wipe the sweat. I didn’t experience it dripping or running but when I wiped my forehead at my hairline there was residue on the towel. But again it washes out in the laundry and doesn’t significantly impact the overall coverage. If you scratch your head, it’ll end up under your nails.I have it on Subscribe and Save to receive a container of the Dark Copper Red shade every 6 months and have noticed the color is not always 100% consistent from batch to batch. When this happens, I very carefully mix the old and new containers together to blend them.My tips for using:It doesn't spread on wet or damp hair so use it on dry hair.Wear an old shirt and stand on a towel when applying because if you're using a lot of it it'll end up on your clothes, floor, and vanity. It's such a fine powder that it rubs in when you try to dust it off. Wipe down your vanity/sink immediately after to avoid transferring to other items. To better control the amount and to keep the dust down, turn it upside over the sink and tap the bottom to dispense powder into the brush. Then pull the sleeve halfway up to tighten the bristles and hold it in place while you apply.Try to avoid discoloring your scalp where you part your hair, part about 1/2 inch on either side of your normal part and apply there instead, repeat 1/2 inch on the other side, then part hair in the normal spot. If it gets on your scalp, use a q-tip to wipe it off following the line of your part.I use a comb to help distribute the powder. After I apply to a section I insert the comb at the part on my scalp and move it back and forth in a sawing motion as I comb down the hair a few inches. I do this with every section/part where I apply. When I'm done I give the comb a quick wash with hand soap. When applying at the hairline around the face... for the forehead I comb the hair back or flip my head upside down and follow the same apply and comb technique described above; for the temples, I grab a chunk of hair and hold it taut out to the side to minimize the amount of powder that gets on my face then apply/comb.When I'm completely done, I use a damp washcloth to wipe around my hairline with my fingertip then do my clean up described above. The whole process, application through cleanup, usually takes less than 3 minutes.

AWFUL FOR REDHEADS
AWFUL for red hair touch ups. For context- I am naturally auburn and I started prematurely graying due to genetics shortly after high school. As a result I color my hair all over- and currently I’m coloring it a slightly brighter and copper toned shade of red than my natural. I was looking for something to touch up my roots between coloring so I could limit the amount of times I retouch to once every other month or two instead of every 3-4 weeks (my hair grows FAST). Since I’m already a red head, just a darker and more auburn shade, I really only need to blend my roots because of the gray- otherwise it would be FAR less noticeable I have regrowth. When I say that I would have looked a thousand times better had I never touched this it is no exaggeration. Thank god it’s just a temporary wash out powder. The copper shade made my roots straight up CHOCOLATE BROWN. And I’m talking DARK. Not to mention it absolutely stained and did not wash out with one shampoo. So- I guess if that’s what you’re going for, great? But if not- RUN.

Just okay
This stuff works, but it goes on messy, gets all over everything if you touch your head, and feels awful in your hair. But if you just need a quick touchup for a zoom meeting or something, it does the job.

This powder is great in theory but the execution is off- I am light/platinum blonde and the powder turned my scalp and hair bright banana yellow. Yellow is a platinum blonde's mortal enemy. I would, however, recommend this product to non-platinum blondes as the product has a strong staying power. I had to shower to get the yellow out despite trying a few other methods to remove the product (wiping with a wet cloth, brushing, etc.)

Does what it says!!
This hides roots super well!! The only thing, is that it does rub off so you risk getting pillows and hands dirty. I also wish it had a nice scent to it, as it doesn’t smell anything at all.

Excellent colour match
The colour match is excellent, and the coverage is great. After I wash and dry my hair, I apply it carefully to avoid getting any on my part line. I set it with a little hairspray after, and it's good for a couple of days until the next time I wash my hair. I love the variety of colours they offer. This product allows me to go 7 or 8 weeks between colouring without anyone being able to notice I'm not a natural redhead.

Horrible!
This item is a scam! I should of listened to the horrible reviews cause they were right. Arrived today with the lid shut on the brush so the brush was deformed and the power doesn’t stick to my hair at all I apply over and over again and it just dusts off and doesn’t even leave a tint! Waste of money and should be taken down from amazon!

Awesome Product!
Excellent product! Very natural looking and lasts until I shampoo my hair. TIP: Add a quick spray of hairspray to set. My hair is naturally very dark brown but I dye it copper red. It blends in perfectly and I never have to walk around with ugly roots:)
