Just a Blade
I received this blade that was packaged in a plastic window attached to the front of a 11" x 3" piece of cardboard. The back of the cardboard contained the installation iinstructions. However only a very small beginning portion of the 8 instructions are available. The rest of the instructions were apparently chopped off. This rinky dink way of doing business is why I took off two stars. The blade itself works as it should but packaging a product in this manner shows a contemptuous disregard for the comsumer. Shame on McLane. The manual that comes with the edger does have instructions on how to change the blade so if one has this manual at least the proper information is available which the replacement blade package lacks. The manual has two steps for blade change. The first sentence of step number 2 is as follows: "Replace blade with only McLane blade (available in 3-pack). I am still looking for the other two blades and the rest of the instructions. Cheesy outfit? You bet.

Value, performance is there.
This edger has value and performance. I few steps out of the box, a little reading and your edging your lawn. It has plenty to poweer which allows you to trim quickly while still getting a beautyful finish to your lawn. The only issues are the oil fill requires a long neck funnel and the trotttle cable does not work when trying to move it to the slower speed. You can use the manual lever on the engine itself and then the cable will move to the slow position. I don't see this as a big deal as most edgers only have the manual engine adjust anyway.I love the job the edger does.

As Advertised (aside from packaging)
The item arrived quickly and it truly is heavy duty! Easily twice as thick as the one that came with my edger which I bought over 10 years ago. It was long overdue and I was shocked at how much metal was missing from my original one. It is painted with a black coating so you wont cut your hands while adding this blade to your edger. Changed it out with a hex wrench (to hold it in place on the backside near the wheels) and a socket wrench on the blade side.

This is NOT a McLane OEM Part
Buyer beware. I purchased this item because I like to use OEM parts when available. The image shows OEM packaging and the tagline indicates McLane Manufacturing. Actual part received comes without packaging and is manufactured by a company named "Oregon." It is also smaller than the OEM part. You can buy the exact same part elsewhere on Amazon for less than half this price and a comparable part at any of the big box stores for even less. Price difference isn't worth the hassle of returning, so I installed it and used it. The part works well enough -- it's just a blade, after all. Only time will tell if it holds up as well as the OEM part it replaced.

GREAT EDGER
Could not be any more pleased with this edger as it performed as advertised. Was helpful to read the reviews about the throttlecontrol and it is not an issue whatsoever. Would recommend this edger over the Lowe's Toro brand any day, especially as it ismade in the USA. Only thing that puzzles me is that there is no tab on McLane's website for warranty registration, and no answeron their telephone number.

Heavy Duty Blade
Haven't use it yet, but can tell it's exactly like the one that came on the machine, which so far, has lasted a surprisingly long time. Apparently there are two types of these blades. This one, which is heavier, and another that is much lighter. These are more expensive, but I'm sure it'll last a lot longer. Disappointing that McLane would even sell the lighter ones. Very satisfied.

Best edger!
Outstanding machine. I've used it many times now and it works very well. I inadvertently stalled the blade once and the machine "ate up" the belt--damaged beyond repair. I called the company to order a new one and the representative advised me that it was a common size and to buy it locally--"It would be less expensive." She was correct. Great customer service.

Not real McLane blade as advertised, recieved Oregon blade
Very dissapointed, I paid a higher price then elsewhere on Amazon for this blade because I wanted a "mclane" heavy duty blade like the one that came on my unit new. It was disturbing to open my package today to find an unpackaged blade, wrapped in paper made by "Oregon". Oregon is stamped into the metal. Not what I purchased!
