Spectrum Spelling, Grade 2 Paperback – December 25, 2006

I use Spectrum workbooks for home schooling two kids. My oldest has nearly finished all of Spectrum Spelling Grade 2. I would rate this book as 3 1/2 stars. I combine this book with weekly spelling lists and tests. I like this book as fun practice except for the review pages. Those pages are just too frustrating. For example, in the review for Lessons 11-15 on page 70, students are asked to "write the spelling word that belongs with each pair of words." For number 1, the words are pond and river. The students have to look back over 20 pages of lessons to find the one word which fits each group. This is extremely time consuming and frustrating for the students. If I use this book again, I am considering skipping these pages entirely.

I bought this for my daughter who will be going into the second grade after the summer. I like the exercises, but thought the words were more in line with what she got in the first grade until more than halfway through. I would probably go up a grade to help prepare for next year rather than a review of what she has already learned.

Decent. I used for my kindergartener and first grader. Nice book for extra work.

I love it! I am working with students who need the phonics in spelling presented in a systematic way, and this book does exactly that.It only has 10 new spelling words in each lesson which is perfect for my students, not overwhelming. It also has simple comprehension practice using the spelling words, which is ideal for students who find spelling and comprehension difficult.

I love this book, my daughter has been using it for 5 months now and her spelling as improved so much, I'm amazed. After each list of spelling words, there are so many pages of activities to use those same spelling words in sentences. Great book!

I am a fan of Spectrum workbooks. They provide good lessons and could easily be the same lessons the child is using in the classroom. Easy directions for the child to follow and answers provided for the parent. Pages are not cluttered. Nice clean look to the lessons.

I use this for my second graders homeschool spelling lessons. It teaches simple spelling rules. I like to use it along with the Explode the Code series.

I used this book to help an ESL learner. The material did an excellent job and reviewing basics and teaching new material. It was also very colorful, so it would work well for children.
