Andy McKee: Art Of Motion (Guitar Recorded Versions)

Hard ! But good

I picked up the acoustic because I once watched Andy playing "Drifting" on youtube and was blown away. I have dedicated the majority of the last 4 year of my practice playing the music of McKee and others like him, such Antoine Dufour, Don Ross, Preston Reed, Jon Gomm, Thomas Leeb, Craig D'Andrea, Stuart Ryan, Eric Roche and can play many tunes by many of these artists, and more. I purchase at least 6 sets of sheet music in a month or two to learn from, and analyse for my own enjoyment. Prior to buying this book, I could already play Art Of Motion, Drifting, Rylynn, For My Father and When She Cries.When I saw this book, I thought, "Oh brilliant, a new, up to date, concise book that has every song on the album, happy days!" I decided to use the purchase to revisit the songs that I knew, and learn new ones.Let me say here, that I love books by Hal Leonard publishing. The quality in books I have bought from them are consistently good until this.Originally, I had learned the above songs through buying from McKee's website (Drifting, Rylynn, For My Father, and When She Cries), or through downloading a g-pro 5 file from ultimate-guitar. The sheet music available from McKee's site (and a couple form ultimate guitar) are far superior to any of the content of this book.Aside from the noting of a double percussive snap on the 6th string in Rylynn, I learned nothing from this book that I didn't already know but far more to the point, would not be able play these pieces to the same degree that I would if I had not learned them from other sources first. From what I can see, each piece I already knew quite well, had incorrect notes in a significant portion of each phrase of each song, whether that mistake was rhythmic, dynamic or simply the note itself.If you are learning songs for the first time, you could get something from it, maybe, but I would not recommend it. Would be learning pieces that are, overall, incorrect, which is very frustrating. You will NEVER learn any song on this album with this book, to 100% what it should be.I was thoroughly disappointed with this book and I would urge any serious player looking to learn songs from this album to not spend their money on it. Please support McKee directly, and purchase sheet music from his website.
