Cape Cod Modern: Midcentury Architecture and Community on the Outer Cape

Love the book, the photos and the text.

I've been going to the lower cape for 20 years and I loved reading about some of the architectural history in Wellfleet and Truro especially.

This book is about modernism, modern living, artists and architects, and a lost era of free-spirited semi-communal vacation living on the cape. It's a great read with great photos.

I have to confess to some bias as we have a home in Truro and discovering the origins of various homes and then actually visiting/driving by..them is a winning combination. The book is beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written. I'd love it even if I did not have the luxury of seeing these one of a kind treasures.

Well researched and beautifully presented history on modernist architecture on Cape Cod, of all places.

I love Cape Cod and anything that sheds light on its history. I've noticed some of these houses for years, and they are unobtrusive and a little mysterious. It's nice to get the backstory on how and why they were built, and by whom.

For an architecture book, this was very interesting as it delved into a period of time with great insight into the people who lived in the area. Photos, anecdotes and biographical information brought the homes and their owners to life. A wonderful read.

This was a great read for me. I adore the architecture and the outer cape. Reading about this group and the incredible structures they dreamed up and left us was amazing. Next summer I'm headed to Wellfleet to see these homes for myself! Enjoy!

Here's a great book surveying a slice of Mid-Century architecture that otherwise might be missed by design lovers. Well written essays, excellent research and compassion for the buildings whose loss is clearly impending.

Cape Cod Modern has a great architectural story to tell and the existence of the little known and important modern architecture on the Outer Cape has been a revelation. It is a fascinating and well written book, with beautiful photographs that tell the story of some of the greats of modernism experimenting with summer homes for themselves and their friends from the 1940s onwards. The descriptions of the lives of the free-spirted artistic community who lived there, adds to the enjoyment and creates a context for the appreciation of these simple, sustainable houses. It's a book for everyone who is moved by a beautiful place and those interested in cultural and architectural history.

I am a Cape Cod fan so this book definitely meets my passion and expectations.
