Why do I need oil?
Look, I admit that shave oil sound like a frou-frou niche product. But if you use a blade to keep your cheeks clean, you should give it a try. The oil goes on first, sits for a minute, then you apply your favorite shave cream. The oil softens your bristly face and provides a bit more slickness so you don’t knock yourself.I got this one to try because sandalwood is a great base scent for guys. It also pairs well with the famous brand Italian shave cream tube I use. It smells great and helps me get a nice, smooth shave. The pump bottle is a nice touch instead of a miser cap or trying not to pour out the entire bottle.I’ve been using my granddad’s razor for decades, since before the current “wet shave” fad kicked off. I don’t need the extra help of shave oil, but it does make my face smoother in less time than without.

Works good!
This works fairly well. You don't necessarily need to use a pre-shave oil but it definitely makes for a smoother shave! I love the scent of this and a little goes a long way, for shorter facial hair.

Great shave oil
I love the Viking Revolution product line of shaving products. This oil smells great and applies well. I only knocked 1 star off because the pump action, whether that's a product issue or if it's me I assume full fault and would restore it to 5 star, but when you attempt to push down the pump head it sticks and if u apply more pressure it then shoots out and splashes outside of your palm or finger tips. Basically it's not a smooth pump application. Other than that little product "flaw", it's a great scented oil for shaving. Definitely recommend.

Nice aroma
Well.I'm reluctant to give this five stars because I don't really value using this product. I think it's of good quality, nice smell and I think it may benefit my skin. But it's not something I would have used in the past so I am still on the fence about it.As a full-bearded man I always regarded shaving as an unnecessary chore that men do because they don't think about the silliness and futility of having a hairless face. I would scrape away a bit of my neck and cheeks and be done with it for a day or so. I never used moisturizers and such because I didn't have time for it or interest in it. Of course, now in my 70s I look every bit of it. A young man may want to do the things I didn't. Okay then, try this sandalwood oil, I think you would like it.The Sandalwood reminds me a bit of an old love's perfume, which isn't problematic but I don't really want to be reminded of her every time I shave. And I hope my wife doesn't read this review. <wink>

Oil is Absolutely Unnecessary but this Does the Job (Not the Job You Expect)
Shave oil is absolutely unnecessary but for what I use it for, this does the job. Allow me to explain. When I try something new I'm all in. So, when I started wet shaving about 13 years ago, I went overboard: research, testing, buying; I even flew to London so I could visit and buy from some of the original stores (Turefitt & Hill, TOBS, Trumper's, Penhaligon's, etc.) even though I could buy their stuff locally. I used creams, soaps, soft soaps, shave sticks, oils, badger hair, boar hair...you name it, I've tried it. And if it's mentioned often on B&B, I own it.In all of that deep research I've learned many things including the fact that shave oil is unnecessary because it does exactly what your shaving cream does. Think about it. Have you ever read what shaving cream actually does? Probably not because they don't write that on the side of the packaging trying to get you to buy it because if you wet shave you're going to buy it whether you know what it does or not. But, if you did read a description of what it does it would read exactly like the description for shave oil. In other words, some wise marketing guru is selling you oil which does that which your cream already does (would you like to buy a waterproof cover for your umbrella, sir?).And that gets me to why I bought this and why I use it. I was looking for some oil (any shave oil, really) on Prime Day, and this one was a good price and highly rated. Here's how I use it: for a quick shave (though not as close) when I'm in a rush or feeling lazy and don't want to lather up.So, as a quick REPLACEMENT for cream or soap for a faster but not as close of a shave, this works as well as any shave oil.

Works that is what counts - Viking Revolution Pre Shave Oil
Regardless of bad reviews stating it does not work, that is the same as shaving cream, well is not!I have a problem if I shave in less than 3 days, bumps, irritation etc. I use Gillette Mach 3, tried others but for me this is the best. I tried all kind of brands of shaving gel, cream, soaps etc. I use a brush to apply the warm shaving gel, still the same issue. I used the Viking Revolution Pre Shave Oil after wetting my face with a warm rag, put enough to make it slippery and definitely wash my hands really good to remove the oil prior to shaving. Use shaving cream on top of the oil, what a difference!. No feeling of scratching from my blade. I can get a closer shave because it runs smooth. After the first shave I applied again shaving gel (no need to re oil) and at this point I had a really close shave, lucky me no bumps, no irritation at all! When I finish shaving I just rinsed with water, no need to remove the oil as it does not feel oily at this point, just feels soft. Maybe because I did not try to wash my face with soap after shaving to remove the oil because I did not feel any oily residue on my face and may be help with me not getting irritation and bumps. So those reviews about "my hands been oily", well, naturally use soap to remove it from your hands before shaving, the reviews about it is the same as shaving cream, well no it is not, it is a complement if you know how to use it. About the smell, it has a light barely noticeable wooden smell, not like cooking oil, not like any nasty oil. I am glad that I bought it regardless of some bad reviews I read. Nevertheless we are not all alike; something that may work for me may not work for others, that's why I decided to try it out. Recomendad 100%
