Esee Perfection!
I love this Esee 4! Perfect blade grind! The fit and finish are impeccable! I have a size large hand and the knife fits it perfectly. I love the micarta handle and desert tan color of the coating. This is my 5th Esee (4 Izulas). I will say I believe from having 2 of their S35VN stainless steel Izulas models and one Esee 4 stainless model (that I had to return because of the terrible blade grind angle) that their 1095 carbon steel models have a superior blade grind on them. Just remember this one doesn't come with a sheath. I purchased one of Carl Thomas's leather sheaths for it. Awesome sheath for the Esee 4! I can highly recommend this Esee 4!

Bombproof Construction, Great Ergos, Perfect Size. But: Be aware this is the knife only.
After watching and reading many reviews in which the reviewer describes the Esee-4 as the perfect size field knife, I decided to buy it. I have to agree. It’s pretty heavily-built but it’s a very convenient size that will be easy to carry in the field. This particular version represents a very good value. This ships as the knife only, with no sheath. I think the injection-molded sheath that usually comes with the knife is just fine but I’m not convinced it’s worth an additional $30-40.I happened to have an older military-style nylon sheath, that “Blackhawk!” used to make, lying around and it’s a perfect size for the Esee-4.I haven’t had a chance to use the knife yet but I’ll be whomping on it this summer for sure. I don’t anticipate any problems.Build quality, as expected from Esee, seems impeccable. Will update my review if anything changes.

Read the product description.
Heavy. I like that. Came with no sheath. AFTER it arrived I noticed it clearly stated that in the description.

The jury is still out.....
I am going to have to work with this knife a little more before I make my final decision. My initial thoughts on this one is, not impressed at all. The knife feels well balanced and I like the smaller handle. I don't have large hands and I like the smaller, lower profile when carrying the knife. I don't mind that it is dura-coated because I generally don't use a fire steel and the coating protects the blade. The knife feels tough and I hear Esee has a great warranty policy on all of their products. But, what the one thing that was the deal breaker for me is the edge on this knife. I am not impressed with the sharpness this knife came with or the edge angle of this knife. I can understand if this were a 30-40 dollar hard use knife that is tough but doesn't come with a great edge. However for 100 dollars I expect a something a little better than this. I tested and compared this knife to my Tops BOB and my Gerber Prodigy. The Tops BOB will run you about the same as this knife and the Gerber is only about 35 dollars. The BOB ran circles around the Esee 4 in just about every test I threw at the three knives. The only thing the Esee 4 has on the BOB is that is weighs less which makes it easier to carry. However, the Esee 4 and the Gerber Prodigy were neck and neck on all the same test. For the record, I didn't do anything that would be considered "hard use". I cut paracord, sliced phone book paper, shaved hair on my arm, some craving with a piece of wood, cut through a 1 inch nylon strap and I also did a very light tip test (nothing too crazy). The BOB was a beast in all of these test. As for the Esee, there were somethings that it did better than the Prodigy and others that it didn't.I have an Esee 3 and an Esee Izula which are excellent knives. My idea of a good knife is one that is tough and cuts/slices/craves well. A great knife is one that can be all of those things and not break the bank.In my opinion, this knife cost too much for the lack of fine cutting capability. When I get a chance I am going to change the edge angle of this knife and see if I can get it to preform better. Which, this is not something I usually have do with a 100 dollar knife.

This is an excellent blade design
This is an excellent blade design. The thing I don't like is that the handle is a little too short to get a full four-fingered grip on it for the heaviest cutting tasks. Oddly, you can buy an upgrade handle kit for it from The Knife Connection that fixes this problem... but it's $54 bucks plus shipping. I'm not the only one to cite this issue with the knife, so I've been waiting to see ESEE either redesign the handle or offer the knife with a choice, but so far they're letting TKC make a new industry of their own offering better handles for their knives. In my opinion anyway. Despite this, I like the knife for a lot of uses, and its very flat profile can be an advantage for discreet carry. (I purchased the excellent ESEE sheath for it separately.)

Good knife, but they sent the wrong one!
It's great, but they sent me a black one with serrations, which was thus completely useful to me.I later bought almost this knife, except black bladed, but no serrations like the one here from another retailer, and I loved it! It's a great bushknife. It's got enough weight that you can "hack" with it a little, it's really nice for battoning, great shape for skinning (assuming you mostly fist, and just use this for the hard bits), very thick blade, very comfortable handle. It's still plenty small enough to throw on your belt. I often carried mine when I went running, as I'd have little else running in unknown country offtrail in national forests.I didn't like the sheath that that knife came with, so I made my own leather one. Great great knife, but... maybe you don't want to get it from these folks so you can actually recieve the one that you want.

A beautiful little blade
A beautiful little blade. Of all the ESEE knives I own, and that includes most of the regular ESEE blades other than the Junglas, this is my favourite. It is stout and offers a lot of belly. It looks good, it feels good. I like it.

Amazing knife, not a practical color choice
The knife is absolutely superb, the quality of the blade, its build, the shape as well as the ergonomics are of the highest class. Two points worth mentioning when considering the purchase:a) the knife doesn't come with any sheath (got myself a personalised hand made kydex+tek-lok)b) this color combination is great for its looks, but the handle gets pretty easily stained from the first use, and even the first clean/oil up session. (My personal reason for 4/5 stars)

Good, thick blade stock
Razor sharp out of the package. Good, thick blade stock, and very durable finish. Perfect for day hiking, or as a companion to a hatchet or small axe.
