Ideal single stone for woodworking tools
This is an outstanding sharpening stone.I've begun a hobby in woodworking and soon realized sharpening plane irons and chisels is a regular event and critical to keeping things fun vs. frustrating. I've practiced on other stones, all cheaper, and they do a fine job of sharpening knives and the occasional axe. For a keen, flat blade on a chisel or plane iron aluminum oxide and arkansas stones are OK, but not great. Mine were 2" wide which were adequate but annoying for plane irons. I've used my father's water stones and they do an excellent job when kept flat. That said, this one double sided stone made short work of bringing back some 2nd hand chisels from chipped uneven blades to flat and sharp. This stone is incredibly fast and easy to use. When my plane's blade gets dull I pull it out the stone, put the blade in the jig and give it ten strokes on the 1200 grit. Strop off the burr and go back to work. No elaborate water stone ritual, no cursing the uneven whetstone. It is solid, sturdy and makes short work of keeping a keen edge on woodworking tools.Outstanding. Simply outstanding. As said before, it does require a bit of break it. It is usable out of the box but it will feel much rougher to the touch than after several uses. In other words, it gets better the more you use it. It works dry but feels better to use it wet. I use automotive window cleaner a la Paul Sellers, but nearly anything wet and somewhat soapy will do. I'm going to try simple green next.An excellent single stone. 400 grit for working a damaged blade, and 1200 for honing it. Some leather and jeweler's rouge if you desire a more polished finish.

Good quality diamonds. Great for knives, but not flat enough for lapping or flattening chisels.
The stones cut quickly and leave a good finish. I found they were excellent for sharpening kitchen knives. However, I purchased this stone hoping to use it for woodworking, and found it was not flat enough for the task. Both sides of the stone have deviations on the order of 1/64 of an inch or so - it's readily apparent if you place a straight-edge on the surface and hold it up to the light. It's great stone otherwise, so I'll be keeping it in my kitchen. But a bit of a disappointment.

Great sharpener
This is the first Eze-Lap sharpener I've purchased and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to have sharp knives. I tried using stones for my Chicago Cutlery steak knives for years but always had a tough time keeping them sharp. The knife's would alway's dull up or never get very sharp for me, until I started using this sharpening stone. This diamond stone takes the metal down on the 400 grit within ten minutes, I then flip it over and its razor sharp after only a few strokes. The only problem I'm having now is my family members keep nicking their fingers because we're not used to the knives being so sharp. We'll just need to be more careful while washing the dish's.

This stone is so quick and easy. Nothing to assemble or adjust
I have several sharpening devices but this one will keep them all in the drawer. This stone is so quick and easy. Nothing to assemble or adjust. Just put it on the edge of the counter and you can have a sharp knife in less than 2 minutes. Saw it in Walter Sorrells' video, 'How to Sharpen Kitchen Knives'. Upgraded to the larger, 3"x8" size to make it easier still.
