Very well researched and told. I'm Past Master of Montezuma Lodge No. 1 AF&AM in Santa Fe, and this history details much behind the soldiers who came and stayed here after the war and established our early masonic military lodge. These events set the stage for the Gilded Age and things like the Santa Fe Ring, and personalities like Reyes Lopez Tijerina, that followed. A passionate story told without the divisive passion, this is history that nevertheless is still effectual and alive here. Tierra o muerte!

This work is very well researched and written. Not revisionist. Written in perspective of the mid eighteen hundreds.(In a way, the story is of the oft oft repeated and sad rationale for other unspoken objectives; "We are here to save you from yourself".)I visit the wonderous Taos area frequently. Through this book I haved gained additional insight into a truly unique and complex part of the world.

Very interesting. Now there is reading material worth my money.
