Clarification of contents
My fellow brothers-in-arms, Don't-Tread-on-Me'ers, and gun nuts:I couldn't find some information on this item as I'm buying it early as a stocking stuffer so wanted to share as much information as possible for would be buyers for yourself or the firearms person in your life. For the uninitiated, there are several print products available especially in the magazine rack of your grocery store. Gun Digest essentially replicates all those monthly editions into one large repository of articles and makes for a handy reference manual of sorts for catalog listings and prices.About 2/3rds of the entire book is in color print, but not gloss pages so that's the only ding against it. About 3/4 of the publication is all articles as my greatest fear was feeling like I bought a catalog instead of buying a book for entertainment reasons. That being said, the remainder of the book are specs on different manufacturers weapons, MSRP values, etc. However, what they've also done is listed a large rubric of ammo as well which is pretty useful.Small gripes: very geared toward American-centric gun owners. 1911s, war-era collectibles, deer/elk hunters, a couple of sporting and modern rifle articles, etc. Despite that, the articles are fantastic and will augment your practice if not your decision making of firearms. If you're into tactical gear, modern weapons, foreign weapons (I love my AK!), this will hit a few topic areas but may not really sate your appetite. I'm hoping they put out the compendium of popular foreign weapons (FAL, AK, CZ) into something similar for my book collection.Very happy it turned out the way I thought it would be and will make a great Christmas present for my buddy...who can't finish reading a book to save his life, so a compendium of gun articles will be perfect.May your sites be true and your ammo always feed.

One of the most poipular gun annuals
I got my first Gun Digest in 1975 and it just keeps getting better. The reference material is nice to drool over, but the articles cover the gamut of the shooting world. While not all the material contained within will be of the same interest to a single reader, every reader will find something that makes the books worthwhile. And yes, you need it in the full printed book, not on a Kindle or other device. These are just too handy not to keep around for years. This year's book adds many new guns, especially handguns, along with field reports on many of them. Extremely handy for planning your Christmas list, readers will find many guns they never knew existed in here. Some of these may be harder to track down than hitting your local Bass Pro Shop or Cabela's, but many are often worth the research and the chase.Of particular interest to me were the Test Fire articles on the Ruger American rifle and the Ruger SR40 handgun, both are on my wish list. But articles on Teddy Roosevelt's guns, Custom Ruger six guns, and Yesterday's Pocket Pistols all caught my eye. I picked up a lot of information from the article on holsters and the .357 Magnum. Other readers may pick out different articles, but none will wlak away unsatisfied with the purchase.

Gun Digest 2014
This is a favorite book that comes out yearly. The first half is composed of articles and product reviews while the second half (roughly the second half) is The Catalog which is updated yearly to show what is currently available and does reflect what the manufacturers are hoping to be able to offer. The articles are always well written and edited. The topics covered vary from year to year so some years seem "better" than others, but that is really just some things interest me and other things do not. Always well written and organized.

Review of Gun Digest 2014
I purchased this book as it is my custom to do so every year. I have to admit some years I like more than others, but that is due to my personal preferences. Some writers and subjects interest me more than others. This I would recommend to all who enjoy this particular subject. It is the best of its genre.

It is getting better, but still omits many great gun makers
I have repeatedly written Jerry Lee, and he has written back: promising to add more gun manufacturers and more models. It is getting better, but still omits many great gun makers.

Pretty good reference
I get this every year, and it seems worth the cost. Always some new tips and the information is in line with my own observations where they are talking about weapons that I am personally familiar with (always a good sign, eh?).

Basically a great book. My only suggestion is in the long gun/rifle review section. Need to add more bolt and lever action rifles. The AR to Bolt/Lever ratio is way off. Either way to many AR's or way to few Rifle's.

Seems like quality of publication is going down hill
Seems like quality of publication is going down hill. Quality of photography in this years book is especially appalling. I can't believe some shots and crops of those shots have passed the editor's desk. Overall it is still great source of information, but it feels somehow more rushed, less refined, just haphazardly put together even just comparing to previous years.

The decline and fall of a great yearbook.
I am a great admirer od gun digest.I have al editions from 1960.But i am sorry to say, that the quality has decresed over the years. From very good with lots of different articles on hunting and hunting guns and the like..To todays empty pages. It does'nt contain much for the brain. It is not every year there is an article which is a joy to read, and at the same time gives deeper knowlege. The tests of new firearms are as bad as can be, they, seems to be written by the Companies advertising departments. It would be wise to take a look your self, and consider the real problem. Gun Digest got on a slide from exceptional, to just plain bad..
