A Classic
Works as expected. Great as a lightweight, solidly built fire starting tool. Also great for doing tricks. Sure it goes through fuel quick, but its easy to refill so whatever. Definitely worth the money.

Well, what can I say... It is a zippo
It is simple and reliable. Nothing can really happen to a lighter with such a simple, years-proven design. You can easily disassemble it yourself for servicing purposes, if needed. Whatever happens, you just need some high-octane fuel to keep it working (of course, during a peacetime special zippo liquid is recommended for better performance and minimum smell :).I personally like high polish chrome with no engraving or picture on it, as it looks most neutral and stylish to me.As for the gas smell by the way, is not strong when the lighter is closed. The lighter is absolutely suitable for all the situations when you would take your bic lighter previously. It is not too big or heavy.I like the fact that you don't need to keep any button pressed to keep fire going. This might be useful when you use the lighter as matches - you can pass it to your friend, use to start a fireplace, warm your hands or even maybe warm some food.I have noticed that inner part goes outside for 2-3 centimeters when you open/close the lighter for a few times, however it does not go further. But I've fixed this by putting a small aluminum foil strip inside the lighter. You have to get some practice so you won't put an excessive amount of fuel when "recharging" the lighter. I recharge mine once per 1-3 weeks.By the way, this lighter comes with no fuel, so make sure you've purchased some zippo liquid if you want to use your lighter right away. Or consider buying a zippo all-in-one kit which includes liquid. But as far as I know, there are no kits with high polish chrome lighters. The lighter is wind-proof and it does not afraid of some amounts of water or sand. I.e. obviously you can blow it out, but when it comes to real usage, this lighter should survive under almost any conditions.

Gift for a friend
I bought this for a friend as his first Zippo lighter. He loves it! Never see him without it. It's very durable but it does retain some finger prints so you may need to occasionally wipe it off to keep the shine. Very light weight and easy to refill (like all Zippos I have purchased). Some may say the price is steep but it is definitely worth the money!

Tired of people complaining it wont work
Yes, it wont work out of box, its common sense that you cant mail a device with fuel and a spark, you HAVE to order fuel for it, as long as you fuel it before hand, or gift it with the fuel its a great item to gift to somebody with ease of use, I highly recommend this to anybody as its a fun thing to own, with the longevity and durability on these, along with the lifetime free repairs from zippo, Have some problems?q: it just keeps sparking after I got itA: add fuel, it doesn't always come with someQ: I've had it for a while but it no longer worksA: its the wick or your out of fuel, easy to replace, plenty of kits on amazonQ: only lit a few times then stopped workingA: didn't stop working just probably ran out of fuel, buy some on the extraP.S. these things also run out of flint so you will need: any zippo kit that gives you Flint, wicks and fuel, there's an abundance of these on here.

Inexpensive Standard Entry Model
If you are familiar with Zippo brand lighters, this will get you one for relatively little cost. I found the construction to be decent, as I expected. The finish, alignment, and small parts are all well done. No fault to the lighter, I don't think you can avoid the little hinge being the weak point. I have not had any problems with the hinge yet, but if you dropped the lighter or it got opened and bent in your pocket or something, the hinge wouldn't stand a chance. Not too likely, but accidents happen. If you are careful with it, I imagine it will last a lifetime. Flint wheel action, flame, wick entry, and general construction seem like they will function suitably for the next few decades. Compared to a standard disposable lighter, the parts on a Zippo are built like a tank, and you don't have that much additional weight. A real benefit is that you won't be throwing out a bunch of plastic lighters anymore. Just one thing you can't do with a Zippo that you can with a disposable. I sometimes use lighters to burn bugs, mostly ticks. The Zippo will not shoot a flame like a disposable lighter will. The flame just gently burns straight up from the wick, meaning if you turn the lighter on its side, the flame goes up thru the flame guard. So I still keep one of those on hand for just such occasions. Anything else, if you need a flame, the Zippo will do the job. (I don't know if Zippo's new BLU line of butane lights might throw a flame, but could be worth looking into if you need this.)

Looking to replace your bics?
From a novice user: I first bought this lighter to solve the problem of having to buy more disposables. To anyone who is thinking about making the switch, it's totally worth it. The only warning I have is that you must buy the correct kind of fluid (get zippo brand lighter fluid) or you could render your lighter almost impossible to light. No matter what lighter you have, you'll always have to refill it. Butane lighters must receive more butane, and bics must be replaced entirely. Zippos take lighter fluid along with new wicks and flints every now and then. Each have their plus sides, except that Zippos are MUCH classier than other lighters, as well as customizable.Message to the newbies: If end up buying one, just get everything you need. Buy Some zippo fluid, some wicks, and some flints. You may have to experiment a little and fiddle around until you figure out how to best use and maintain a zippo, but it's a nice piece of history anyone will like. And yes, you can use it for "other" things besides tobacco.
