A really strong antibiotic in January caused major intestinal problems for me, and the result was six months of IBS-d. Emphasis on the "d"!! Two doctors, lots of tests, the loss of seven pounds, and hundreds of dollars of 'try this...' didn't help a bit. When I was on vacation in April, the problem seemed to settle just a bit, and I decided to leave the doctors and all of their random guesses, and work it out on my own. I'm a nurse - I should be able to figure out my own body. After 'doing 'the math', I discovered that on vacation I didn't drink any tea with honey, nor did I eat any apples or pears (usually one or the other at lunch). Fructose Malabsorption?? Yep. Cutting out fruit as well as other products that had a high ratio of fructose helped ease the problem about 25%. Then I did some research on what probiotics work well for IBS-d. I was taking Digestive Advantage, and even after months it wasn't doing a thing to help. So I kept reading, and pretty much by accident I came across the research that had been done on Saccharomyces boulardii, brand name Florastor. Reports on the research said that it worked exceptionally well in combination with Lactobacillus strains of probiotics, so I decided to give it a try. I had taken Enzymatic Pearls in the past, and liked them, so I bought their MaxPotency formula that contained two Lacto probiotics, and I ordered Florastor. They arrived quickly, and I decided to start out with one capsule a day to see how I did. WELL.....!!! Less than a week later, I feel as perfectly normal as I did before taking that blasted antibiotic!! No diarrhea!! No stomach pain, and no every other miserable symptom of IBS. I'm taking one 'Pearl' a day and one Florastor capsule a day at lunch, and I can hardly wait to see the doctor and 'smack him up side the head' for not pointing me in this direction from day one! :-) One important note -- PLEASE, read the enclosure that comes with Florastor. You need to know what Not to take it with, and it will tell you details about the ingredients. Do I recommend it -- Absolutely!!!!

***update***I went about 8 months without taking it and my body started going back to the way it was. This is a confirmation to me that Florastor offers what I need. Changed my life completely and that's not just a cliche.I did a lot of research like you are doing reading this review. I had all sorts of stomach problems going in, with some advice I looked into probiotics. I decided on Florastor because according to their research it helped a lot of people that were lactose intolerant (which I am). I write this review after using it for a year, I'll describe just a little of my stomach issues.Starting this probiotic I had pinpointed certain foods that really affected me; fast food, burgers, dairy, etc. I basically couldn't eat anywhere unless it was a salad with vinaigrette without going to the bathroom 30-60 minutes later. It was sad because burgers and pizza are always my food of choice. I know partially caused by diet but I had diarrhea at least 3 times a week and it was time to make a change. My diet has changed a little but mostly because my job doesn't take me on the road anymore. Within a couple months of daily use of Florastor I was able to see an improvement. Unhealthy meals or dairy would make my stomach uncomfortable but I wouldn't have soft stool as often (maybe 4 times a month).Over continued daily use now about 1 1/2 years I can eat italian, mexican, burgers, etc and not really not see an affect on my stomach (my love handles yes). I still can't eat a lot of ice cream without having gas but I haven't had a problem more than gas for several months. Along with a conscious change in diet and being consistent on taking pills my life has completely changed. I recommend this product. But buy it on Amazon, it's always cheaper even with coupons.

My 5-yr-old daughter had been having stomach problems for about 1 month. At first, we thought it was gas. Then, we were told it was acid reflux or constipation. We tried the antacid and laxative that the pediatrician gave us, but our poor daughter was still suffering. It got to the point where she didn't want to go to school, she would only eat half her meals because her stomach would hurt and she seemed tired all the time. We were at our wits end trying to figure out the problem. We brought her back to her old pediatrician and he suggested that we try Florastor. She had had strep throat and was prescribed an antibiotic for the infection. Florastor worked like a miracle cure! Within 2 days, her energy was up and within a week, her stomach would only hurt at night and in the morning! Now (about 2 weeks later), she seems to be back to normal! Fingers crossed, she stays this way. The way our pediatrician explained it, the antibiotic for the strep throat really messed up her bowel movements and the Florastor restored her good bacteria to bring her back to normal. We are so thankful to Florastor - the past month has been very difficult (more so because we couldn't figure out what was wrong!)FYI for all the parents out there - while the back of the box says to take 2 a day, our pediatrician told us to give our daughter only 1 a day. She's only 5 and very slim for her age though (she's only 37 lbs).Hopefully, this review will help other parents who find themselves in a similar situation.
