G2 High Temperature Brake Caliper Paint System Set RED G2160 - High Gloss

I had always wanted to try the G2 High Temperature Brake Caliper Paint system and it did not disappoint! I recently purchased a 2020 BMW X3 that has the M sport line package but not the M sport brakes. I love the look of clean painted calipers so I decided to give the G2 system a try. In the past, I have used caliper painting systems that were spray can based. Although these produced nice results, masking the car and components and trying to keep overspray down was a challenge. What I love about the G2 system is that application is done with brushes and you do not need to worry about overspray. Included in the kit is everything you need to get the job done with maybe the exception of a wire brush to remove stubborn brake dust. If your calipers are relatively new or fairly clean, you may not even need a brush. I had the luxury of a vehicle lift at my disposal so that I could do all 4 calipers at a time fairly easily. If you are doing this at home, I would consider a set of jack stands so that you can do the same. I watched a few videos prior to completing the project and it was just as easy as the videos made it out to be. After suspending the vehicle, I removed the wheels and used the included can of brake clean to prepare the calipers. Once they were cleaned thoroughly, I masked off anything that I did not want painted in the general area of the caliper. Next, you mix the two part paint system in the paint can and stir for about two minutes until the activator and paint are combined. Then its time to start carefully brushing on the paint. The included brushes with the kit did a fine job and lasted for the entire project. A pro tip is to apply a small amount of coating on the first two passes and achieve decent coverage. For the third and fourth coat, I applied the paint a little more generously but not too heavily and was able to achieve a high gloss enamel almost factory look. Really quite impressive. For time in between coats, by the time I finished the fourth caliper, I was able to go right back to the first caliper and reapply. Paint was dry to the touch within about two hours after application, but it is recommended to wait as long as you can without driving the vehicle as to avoid excess heat. In my situation, I waited around four hours after the final coat before I put the wheels back on and headed home. Rule of thumb is the longer you can let the paint cure the better and since this is air dry paint, no heat is needed to achieve a great finish. The before and after results are very impressive and I absolutely love the finished look and deep blue color of the calipers. It is exactly how I had wanted it to turn our. So if you are in the market for a caliper paint system that is easy to apply and affordable, I highly recommend the G2 paint system!

I used the G2 High Temperature Brake Caliper Paint Kit in epoxy purple on our 2007 Saab, and I’ll say this right up front: this is not a “lazy Saturday, knock it out in an hour” kind of project. This is a “stare into the mechanical soul of your car and confront every trace of grease you’ve ignored for 19 years” kind of project. The color is awesome. Once it’s on, it looks rich, bold, and way more durable than spray paint. It gave the Saab exactly the kind of slightly unhinged, confident glow-up I was hoping for. Purple calipers on an older Saab feel like a declaration that aging gracefully is fine, but aging with attitude is better. Now for the real talk: prep is everything, and this kit will humble you if you underestimate that. Buy extra brake cleaner. Seriously. I used 4 additional cans before even touching the can included in the kit. I also used a toothbrush to scrub things down, and even then I still had to wipe grease out of the pin areas. You think it’s clean until this project teaches you that “clean” and “caliper-paint clean” are two very different life philosophies. Also, have extra gloves ready. Expect to go through at least one pair per caliper, probably more if you’re trying to stay neat. The included brushes, or at least the ones I used, started to fall apart as I went, so don’t get too emotionally attached to them. And keep acetone nearby for quick cleanup, because this stuff does not mess around once it starts setting up.That said, this epoxy is bomb. It goes on thick, levels nicely if you take your time, and feels much more substantial than a spray-can solution. It absolutely takes longer than just buying Power Stop calipers or hitting yours with quick spray paint, but that’s the tradeoff: more labor now, better durability later. Spray paint is a fling. This epoxy feels like commitment. So, would I do it again? Yes. Would I underestimate it again? No. This kit turned into one of those projects where halfway through you question your decisions, by the end you respect the process, and a week later you find yourself looking at your car in parking lots like a proud parent.Bottom line:Buy extra brake cleaner. Buy a toothbrush. Buy extra gloves. Keep acetone handy. Expect the brushes to suffer. Expect yourself to suffer a little too. But when it’s done, it looks fantastic and lasts.

Fantastic product with flawless results! The G2 High Temperature Brake Caliper Paint System was easy to use and completely transformed the brakes on my 2017 BMW X3. A couple of fine wire brushes took care of about 10 years of rust and buildup, and the included brake cleaner handled the rest of the prep. One tip: have all four wheels off and everything prepped before mixing the paint. Once mixed, the clock is ticking. There was more than enough paint for all four calipers, and I was even able to put a third coat on the fronts. By around the two-hour mark, though, the paint was getting pretty thick and sticky when I finished the rears. The finish came out smooth, glossy, and looks professionally done. The blue completely changed the appearance of the old X3 and gives it an awesome M-inspired look. For the price and a little DIY work, the results are hard to beat.Absolutely a 5-star product. I'll definitely be using G2 again when it's time to do the TRD red calipers on our Sequoia!

I want to write this review to help others make a smart and informed decision regarding what G2 is and what they can expect from it. I have never painted brake calipers before in my life and this was the most accessible way for me to do it so I did make a few mistakes. However, I do believe that my experience is still relevant to those who will tackle their project while following G2's instruction strictly.First off, I believe that what I have done was fairly ambitious. I repainted 4 2-pot piston Porsche calipers by myself, which significantly increased the time it takes to finish all 4 calipers. The G2 managed 2 full coats without issues with enough left over for touch ups. The touch ups are essential however as in my experience, the paint is prone to developing fish eyes, resulting in patches of clearing that needed to be filled. G2 also dries rapidly and thickens fairly quickly so working quickly is important.Do no use the brushes included int his kit and source good quality brushes for the job. And if you have read up on forums that used 1 inch foam applicators/brushes, be warned that those are good for only a few minutes as they do end up disintegrating eventually, leaving behind specks on the uncured paint. I do not recommend them.Lastly, the G2 is not for everyone. In my opinion, the G2 is unique in that it allows people to easily apply and change the color of their calipers. But for someone like me who was aiming for restoration and full rebuild of the calipers, the product is imperfect. The applicate is too long for the short curing window for full caliper repainting and the application does not self-level to perfection. You will probably notice brush strokes that cannot level out eventually as the application grows increasingly tackier and thicker. So while the amazing properties of the G2 for durability and chemical resistance/thermal resistance is appealing for track day drivers or non-aesthetic users, the G2 is not really the best choice for people looking for that factory perfect restoration. Stick to 2K spray gun or baking regular brake paint to achieve such results.I do believe that G2 is an excellent product otherwise. It's durable, chemically hardy, and thermally resistive to damage. They can be applied without fancy equipment or spraying and is one of the products that allows application while the caliper is still on the car.BUT, if you want that factory fresh rebuild and perfect finish, consider other options. If G2 can make a spray paint version that can apply quickly and evenly, it would be a great option. And yes, I am aware that they sell a fillable aerosolizer but I've heard bad things about that.

Good product. Durable and goes on easy. I would recommend a fresh set of brushes between each coat as the epoxy will stiffen the brushes. The kit contains enough paint to easily coat 4 calipers with 2 coats each, and possibly up to 4 coats each depending on the size of the calipers. Does a fair job of filling in metal casting texture, but it will not give a completely smooth finish on its own.

Product was easy to use. Pour in the reactor, mix and paint your little heart out. More than enough paint provided. I only painted what will be visible once the new calibers go on. Super simple with the new calipers off the vehicle since they are all getting replaced.I did 2 thin coats followed by a slightly thicker coat so it could settle and limit the visibility of brush strokes. Paint is thin enough once mixed it will take multiple coats. First 2 coats left some open spots since it was filling in all of the divots of the calipers. Overall it took a few hours as I figured it out. That was with multiple interuptions from the crotch goblins I created. They are very shiny and coverage is really good. I should have put a few more layers on to get a smoother surface. It absolutely took shape of the metal. Flaws in the caliper making process are visible. Them again it it will be mostly tucked away behind rims.Took about 30 minutes after the final coat to not feel tacky. Left them for the night and by the next afternoon they felt solid. As I was re assembling the calipers I knocked on against the bracket and it took the paint off. Not a huge deal as I missed some visible spots anyways.Once I finished the original 3 coats I sealed the paint and put it in the fridge. Attempts at slowing the solidifying process. Slowed it and was gunky but enough to be able to "touch up" the few spots. Don't think it will be as shiny or smooth as the original but it will be pink like the mother of spawn asked.I bought another set for my truck and will update on the ease of process with calipers mounted on the truck. As well as pics of these from on a blacked out Edge.I hope this helps anyone who is looking for a decent price for a fun accent.V/R M

I’m really impressed with this product! The color matched the packaging perfectly, and the application was much easier and cleaner than I expected. It wasn’t messy, runny, or drippy while applying, which made the whole process much less stressful. It was also very easy to mix and apply. The end result looks fantastic, and I’m really happy with how everything turned out. Definitely recommend!

FIRSTLY - it does look purple in the can, it dries blue, I'll post after pics. This is an obvious concern, and a few reviews here made me sketchy. Wet paint and dry paint don't always look the same people, especially when it's special purpose paint with add-in activators.I used this a 2004 Mustang with Sonic Blue paint (one of the pics has part of the car in it so you can see the compare of the blues for reference). G2 will send you a color swatch free in the mail from their site btw, that's what I did. I also copied it from thier site and used Photoshop to place it on a pic of my car to give me an idea how it'd look.Got the package promptly, inspected it. It was packed like crap but unbroken. In the product box you'll find -A spray can of brake cleanerCan of paint, a little more than half full, this is so you have slush and mixing room.A glass vial of activatorA paint brush. Brush itself isn't bad quality, but way to small for this use, it would take you all day!A Popsicle stick mixer, works fine.InstructionsOther things you'll need and/or want -Better brushes! I got 1 inch wood chip brushes locally for $7 cents each, I got several. These worked well, but be careful as the bristles come out easily and stick to the paint. I also got some smaller detail brushes for the little spot the bigger brushes couldn't hit.Tape, I used Scotch Blue Painters tape, worked great.Gloves, masks.A can of brake cleaner, just in case. I'm sure the one they give you will be enough if all you're doing is calipers. I think I went through about 1.54 cans. I actually used some Brakleen I already had on hand.PATIENCE! Seriously, take your time on the cleaning part, it'll be worth it!Can't thing of anything else I used that was specifically caliper paint related. Here's how I did this...Read the instructions.Put the car up on stands. The paint is only good for a few hours after you mix it so you can't really do one caliper at a time.I was painting my rotors, dust shields and wheels as well on this project, so I took the calipers off the car.I did not disconnect the lines, just placed them on boxes under the wheel well.Cleaned everything on the car extremely well, steel brushing, sanding, steel wool, spraying, etc.Since the calipers were off, I didn't worry about taping anything off for that part. (I taped and placed cals under paper when spraying the shields)Read the instructions - again!Mixed the paint and activator in can using the popsicle stick.NOTES on color - IT LOOKS PURPLE IN THE CAN!!! It DOES turn blue as it dries, I'll post after pics.Paint time! I did one light coat all around. I took time, about ten minutes from start to reach the first caliper again, which is the coat time, perfect.Second coat was a little heavier, filled in gaps missed on first coat.Third coat, about the same heaviness of second, any heavier you'd have runs and dripping.Fourth, and final, coat. By this time, it was clearly blue in color.Three coats probably would have been fine. There's plenty of paint for more though, probably could've gotten a fifth still.Since I bought a ton of those 1 inch brushes, I'd used a new one for each coat.Allow to dry overnight before use.Since I still had the rest of project to do, it was actually 2 days before I put anything together again.Pay attention to your weather too. I started this in the morning, but being in San Diego, it got real hot, real fast. I did the whole project in about a week as a result of the heat and sun.I put everything back together, wiped some grease of the calipers - that was awesome, it just wiped off cleanly with a towel!I choose to add a "Mustang" decal to my calipers, this would be the time to do so if you choose (for your car of course).Remember to push your brake pedal a couple times before drive off. Enjoy! There are tons of vids available for this, I watched a few, learned a little :)Also of note, I did smell some paint burning when driving the first few days, especially when braking hard. Not sure it this was the caliper paint or the rotors, or the heat/dust shield (I used a different black caliper spray paint and high heat spray paint paint for those).I'd definitely recommend this product if you want a little extra class on your ride. It's been only a couple weeks since I applied it, but it still looks great! It's comes out a glossy medium blue. G2 also sells color coded paint too, for twice the price.

This came up really wellThank you

superb

Perfect pink colour for my wife’s escape. I took them right apart and painted everything proper rather then leaving it all assembled. They look amazing and we have gotten a few compliments already. It’s been 3 months and no stone chips or peeling yet but our harsh winter will be the test in the coming months. As of now I would 100% recommend this product to anyone and the skill and difficulty level is very low. One thing I should mention is I divided the kit in half with a household measuring cup. Using half this kit painted all 4 calipers on the escape with 3 coats. If you pre mix the entire amount once the hardening has set in the rest is garbage ! Now I have half the kit left not yet mixed for touch ups or re painting after a few years

purchased last year and was very anxious to use it! finally got around to doing it and I am very impressed with the outcome. I recomend taking the brakes apart and doing a thorough clean on them and painting them the way I have done mine. The can says you can do it without taking anything apart but you will have to do some hefty taping....i like this way better, much easier to paint and will look better in my opinion! There is more than enough paint to do 3 or 4 coats on 4 calipers as well. (looks are dicieving) I would definitely purchase this again. I strongly recommend.

Easy to apply. Looks awesome
