it was enjoyable to read the one that first got Savich and Sherlock together and It is easy to see how the later books developed
Having already read a lot of Catherine Coulter's FBI books, it was enjoyable to read the one that first got Savich and Sherlock together and It is easy to see how the later books developed. CC's FBI books are always hard to put down with their twists and turns.

Wishing this was 'The End', not 'The Beginning'
Don't. Don't go in there.I read this thinking it would be a good introduction to a a decent novel in the crime genre. Boy, was I sooooooooo wrong! The FBI should make this disappear like a bad conspiracy!! Sue, sue, sue - even just for the appalling misrepresentation of the FBI and Special Agents (amusing as they can be!).Yeeeuch! I found this (just...can't.... bring myself... to call it....a....a..... a novel!!)simplistic, trashy, dumbed-down, cheesy, bad chick-lit style, camp (yes, camp!), book stuffed full of every macho and romantic cliche that I imagine wouldn't be out of place in a 1980's Mills & Boon novel (if they did romantic crime novels, that is). I laughed (out loud) where I wasn't meant to at this complete load of absolute nonsensical and most incredible tosh. The only redeemable quality that these books have is the cheesy humour throughout (incidental or not!). Actually, scrub that. There's no redeeming this putridly stupefying mass of cerebrally corrosive mulch! Don't do it people - Your IQ will shrivel and dissolve into nothingness in a relatively short-time. This is suicidal territory. Mental anguish!Thank Gawd, this is over!! It's like a nail-pullingly bad episode of 'Diagnosis Murder' (which I was unlucky to have caught on TV whilst hungover a very long time ago - and the memory of which still makes me shiver with self-loathing disdain!). So, I'm off to write my first novel .... if this piffle got itself published and sold then I need an agent (A literary one! And yes, hopefully they'll be Special!!) fast!PS: Sorry Catherine. You look so sweet on the jacket blurb too.

The Beginning
My wife tells me that Catherine Coulters FBI series is a very good read, she should know having read all of the books in the series, so when i found this supposed new book on Amazon i thought great i'll get it for her. Unfortunately there was no write up on the books content, so when i unpacked the box tonight and found that it was actually a compendium of her first two books in the series (and hence titled The Beginning) i was a littel disappointed. Buyer beware.

A Good Beginning
This is an omnibus of the first two stories in the F.B.I. series by Catherine Coulter. I have read many Catherine Coulter stories and really enjoyed these two. I enjoyed Lacey Sherlock and Dillon's story in 'The Maze' more than Sally and James' in 'The Cove'. But both were good and very readable. Look forward to reading more in the series.

Perfect
This is the third time reading this book - I love it so much because it is the story of Sherlock and how she and Savich got together - absolutely awesome

Disappointed
This was my first and last Coulter book. First of all, it was not a mystery "thriller". The proper genre would be romantic fiction. The female protagonist, supposedly an FBI agent, is frail, trembling and needs protection from the bad guys. This kind of woman would never have made it through the rigors of Quantico. The male protagonist is never fully developed beyond his lust for his subordinate. Both of them would have been fired for their conduct. It was one of those books where reading the first chapter and then the last would have cleared everything up. Unbelievable characters, shallow plot and some of the worst dialogue I've ever read. Ms. Coulter has tried to stuff a hot air balloon into a tiny bottle. It didn't work.

Closely related books
While looking for an FBI who-done-it kind of book, Catherine Coulters' books were rated well. I'd never read her stuff before, so I thought I'd start at the beginning with the box set. I can't say as much as I'd like, it might spoil the book for another reader. But the first 90 pages of, The Cove were quite frustrating. They had a premise and a nugget of an idea, and just kept regurgitating it over and over and over again. With considerable mention to the Ice Cream Shoppe at least 200 times. The Maze seemed to follow the same footprint as, The Cove. The main characters playing the roles of FBI agents, combines the physical & computer prowess of Dillion Savich. He's coupled with a rookie female agent named, Sherlock. Their close encounters almost mirror those of our protagonists from, The Cove. I kept thinking while reading, The Maze- "I sure wish one of these agents would put a couple of these clues together." Some other characters that get some play end up having absolutely nothing to do with the plot or diluted subplot. Also kept thinking, "I've got to finish this book to get onto something else."

A combined volume to start the series.
This is a reprint of the first two books in the FBI series as a combined volume. It introduces FBI Special Agents who continue in the series. It is always best to read a series form the beginning. The first of the two novels, "The Cove," introduces a woman on the run, having escaped from confinement at a mental hospital. Sometimes it is out of the frying pan and into the fire. She makes some mistakes in assuming whom she can trust, and acquires some new allies. There is more than one crime being committed, and her actions turn over some rocks. The second of the two novels, "The Maze," introduces a young women who has trained herself for years to be an FBI Profiler in order to track down a serial killer. She becomes involved in more than one case, and risks her life to try to solve the original case that has consumed her for the past seven years. There are some surprises, and the case turns up unexpected information. The stories are well written, but the first novels of a series are often not the author's best. I do wish authors would use prologues to set the scenes for their stories. The author does use epilogues to wrap things up.

Good for filling in the gaps
I like Catherine Coulter's FBI series, but had never read the first books in it, so it was kind of fun to see how it all started. However, I think the series has gotten better over the years. I thought "The Maze" was pretty good, but "The Cove" (which I was predisposed to like because of the setting) was a little lame.

They meet and team up as a couple!
This tale is the beginning of the FBI series of agents Savich and Sherlock before they married. It is told on my Kindle from Amazon in a very interesting fashion and I really enjoyed it. I have read many of the FBI series by Coulter who is an excellent author. I believe you will enjoy this as much as I did.

The Beginning
Canterine Coulter's "The Beginning" is the first in her "FBI SERIES". I have read several other books in the series and was very glad to have found the beginning since it introduces some main characters that appear in the subsequent stories. If you like ice cream, the story contains a very good ice cream parlour - which, of course, plays an important part in the book. The town in which the action occurs seems to be a quiet, slow-paced old fashioned town. It even has a couple old geezers sitting around on main street playing checkers. The townspeople are very proud of their town and keep it in top-flight condition. Nice place to live... if you can...The story is complete with a girl in hiding, a dead father who is terriorizing her with phone calls and personal appearances, an elderly matron whose nose is into everything (and who is trying to play match-maker for another character), and an occassional freshly dead body, and an investigator who is certainly not what he claims to be!The plot was, perhaps, a little off the wall asking the readers to believe that a whole.... well, I shan't spoil it for you. You just need to read it.Nothing is as it seems...

Forget it. Don't waste your time.
I couldn't even make it past the first few pages as either it was lousy editing or something but she couldn't remain on the same name of the lead character. She called her Susan, as she was being screamed at by her Dad and Sally by her mom. Too frustrating to try and follow after that.Wish I had read the reviews before I spent my money on this. Don't waste your time or money.

Catherine Coulter book
The only problem with Catherine Coulter books is that once you read one, you will be ordering another. Her FBI stories lead you all over the place. You think you have the answer, and you aren't even close. It is so nice to read the first chapter and still wonder how it will end. Great choice.

Finally!
I’ve always love Ms. Coulter’s books but I started in the middle of her FBI series, then finally decided I wanted to know how Savich and Sherlock become one of my favorite couples, and I’m glad I did! If you haven’t started at them beginning, then you’re missing out!
