Q: Is there a silent mode for the thermometer so that you might not wake up a sleeping child or whomever's temperature you are taking?

No silent mode but this thing barely makes any noise at all. It makes a very short, low level beep. It will not wake up a child or adult.

Q: This thermometer was calibrated in factory. But what are the steps if this product ever need to be calibrated in it's life

The one I received had no instructions nor user info. It did not work. It was stuck on "RED" and would not change. A very bad purchase.

Q: What is a s/n and where is it? need it for guarantee card. so many numbers on box, item, instructions.

S/N is serial number. This is located on the back of the box near bottom right hand side & on the forehead thermometer. Hope this helps.
