I am very happy with this camping lantern! I bought it as a gift for my son who is getting into camping. It is smaller than I thought it would be, but that is great because it is easy to pack in a backpack. Honestly, I think it is so darn cute! I am thinking of getting a few to hang in my backyard for an outdoor party! It is great the way it pops up. I think this is a great gift, not just for the campers in your life, but anyone. It shines bigger than a flash light. I think it would be great to keep in the car for late swim meets and soccer games with my kids. It is so versatile! I hate lighting candles when the power goes out so this is the perfect solution! Irec'd a discount for my review. I think it is great for more than just camping!

I've actually purchased a total of four of these LED lanterns from four different vendors / brands. With the exception of the label / brand some have stuck on or silkscreen to the body, they are all identical so buy wherever the price or seller ratings are best. Now on to the product itself.I must say, for the price of these lanterns I wasn't expecting a whole lot. However it turns out that these are very handy to have around the house and for camping. They make a great emergency light for when the power goes out too. The lantern automatically turns on as soon as you begin to pull the LED portion upwards from the body / housing of the lantern. It is friction-fit so it stays up and lit when pulled out of the base. They put out a good amount of light in a white / blue color. They are made of hard plastic with metal handles which makes them very light weight. The plastic, so far, seems to be pretty durable and has survived a few drops.The only con or area for improvement would be something to keep them closed. Since they turn on as soon as they begin to open, you have to be careful that they do not open unintentionally if you're packing them in a bag for camping / hiking / etc. A rubber band does the trick though. I also do not believe these are water proof, though by design they are somewhat water resistant.*This product was received at a discounted price in return for my honest review. This LED Lantern is surprisingly brighter than I thought it would be for its size. Its very compact and super bright. I like that it slides up and down into its case to protect it when being stored. It has two little handles that fold up and down for easy carrying. It runs on 3 AA batteries. The kids cant wait to use it going camping even though they have been using it around the house at night. This lantern is awesome! It is very bright for being so compact. The lantern is collapsible so it is great to take camping. My kids love it as well, which means they have dropped it numbers times and it has not broke, very durable!
