No memory. Start from the beginning each time.

Q: What is the waterproof rating? Can I submerge it?

No it does not have any interior seals

Q: Does using in sensor mode shorten battery life significantly?

I haven’t noticed much of a difference. Although the sensor mode can be overly touchy in my onion so I don’t use it much. Even my hair blowing in front of the sensor too close every so often can turn the light off.
