The double line at the bottom means that the two letters make one sound. Like “ch,” “oi,” “th.” They are called digraphs (two letters that make a new sound) and vowel diphthongs (these sounds slide out of your mouth).

Great set for early readers!

This set is excellent, though there are a few more advanced consonant combinations stuck in with the CVC words. This has been great for use with magnetic letters to practice building words. I did take off a star because with kids using them, I would prefer for them to be plastic coated like playing cards to waterproof them a bit. Otherwise, the set is an excellent value and has been perfect for our needs.

Perfect for a new/struggling reader

I got these for my kindergartner who is struggling to learn to read. I have her point to each dot and say the sound, then blend them. After going through the CVC card pack once, my daughter had already improved immensely, and just keeps getting better and better each time we use them. These cards are turning out to be invaluable for teaching my child to sound out words and read!

Great learning differently tool!!

These are very good at helping my 9 year old to remember and brake down every sound of the word. Lol.. She flew right through the cards. When it normally takes time to go through these words on paper. I will be getting the step up for her. I wish they would come out with larger words. Loved it!!
