Is this significantly different than getting your child a magnifying glass?

I feel it is. There is a level of patience required in the set up & focus, that is not necessary when a magnifying glass is used. This also comes with sample filled slides, just as they will see someday in a classroom. Personally, I have given both to my grandson, and he uses them in different ways.

Does this come with sample slides? I see one of the answers references this, but it's not in the product description.

It does not come with slides. It does have a Petrie dish to put a sample in.

Perfect for Preschool lab

I LOVE this microscope. I bought two for our preschool lab and the children loved them. Very easy to use. I also love that the "slide" can hold big things. The microscope comes apart to use as a type of pericope. A must for preschool science.

Muy lindo

Me gustó el modelo, está muy bonito, material super resistente. Mi niño tiene 3 años, le gustó mucho, solo que como que lo agarra muy rudo y le cuesta trabajo utilizarlo, se recarga en el y pues se despega el lente de la base, pero es porque el no mide su fuerza, no es tan cuidadoso aún.Lo recomiendo para un bebe un poco mas grande de 3 años o para jugar, porque realmente no he logrado que enfoque bien y vea bien las muestras con el.Me costó trabajo enfocar el lente.
