Q: Can you turn down the volume?

Yes it has a volume control knob.

Q: Can you adjust the hours that it cuckoos?

I don’t think so. It’s cute but for some reason it starts chiming one ‘cookcoo’ at 7 and then goes up. It doesn’t make sense and I haven’t been able to adjust it. Wouldn’t buy again.

the plastic is durable. Bought 2 as gifts and recepients really liked them. The cuckoo sound is quite loud - but the clock has a 'volume' control..
