Yes, is DOES work on St. Augustine Grass!
This pro plugger is a gem! I am here to tell you it does work on St. Augustine Grass and I am living proof that it does. Two years ago I transferred approximately 80 plugs from one part of my yard to another. It took some time, but it did work! I have Raleigh and Palmetto St. Augustine Grass sections in my yard. The only mistake I made was I used the 2 inch depth for plug transfer at that time, so it took longer to establish. BUT, it did work! I now have a full section of Raleigh St. Augustine grass in that new section. In addition, this week I transferred 400 Raleigh St. Augustine Plugs to a new section again. This time I used the 4 inch depth and much better for root transfer. You have to wet the areas first, both to and from transplant to the plugs can be slightly sticky and stay a plug. As a caveat, my soil is mostly clay with a little bit of sand and silt. If a person has mostly sand, then I could see where that could be a little more painful. I live in southeast North Carolina close to the southeast coast, YES, we have St. Augustine up here...cold tolerant varieties. I just want to let people know that you can use this amazing plugger to transfer St. Augustine plugs in your own yard. The establishment process is a little longer than buying pre-established plugs that have a good root base already and screaming to get out and grow. So compared to pre-established plugs, give these St. Augustine Pro Plugger transfers another 2 to 3 weeks longer. Who cares! It's already in your yard, just put the labor in and get it done. Sprinkle some balanced fertilizer in those holes, shove those plugs in, and water, water, water, daily. If you buy plugs or sod from the big box stores or big farms, you still have to put the labor in anyway and you still have to water, water, water, anyway! The only reason their website may not recommend for St. Augustine plug transfers is because it takes a few weeks longer for them to establish. I notice they say they don't "recommend", they never said "do NOT use for." I am here to tell you it works and the possible reason they say don't recommend is for the extra time it takes.I'll add more to this post later as I'll have some updated photos to verify. E.G., 30, 60, 90 day etc., plug growth. If you're on the fence about using it, don't ever let some one tell you what you can't do!!!Ok Folks, here are the photos to show what is possible. This is my own experience. I cannot speak for others. The photos of the dying rye grass patch are a checkered pattern of St. Augustine plugs I transferred this week in a new area. They are hard to see, but if you look close enough you can see the plugs in a checkered pattern spaced about 6 inches apart from each other. And the other photos are of what the area I plugged two years ago look like now.I just added 5 new photos of a 31 day update on Raleigh St. Augustine plugs I transferred using the Pro Plugger. Looks to me like ALL of them took; roots and all! You can clearly see the runners (stolons) are starting to take off. You can clearly see the 6 inch pattern between each originally plugged. These pro plugger St Aug plugs appear to me they are extremely ready to spread and take off with aggression. And I took all of these from another area in my own yard. I have read that the pro plugger doesn't work on St Aug grass. Hmm? Unless I need to be medicated, what I'm seeing is this whole area will be completely filled in before summer's end. Don't always believe what people are negating and don't ever let some one tell you what is not possible and don't ever let some one tell you what you can't do! Try it for yourself and see what is possible.

I love this plugger. It works 100 times easier and better than I ever imagined.
There were many choices when I went to purchase a plugger. I am so glad that I purchased this model. This has worked out so so well. I have a beautiful yard but every once in a while I get a patch of bad grass growing, so I kill it. I have used this to take plugs from elsewhere in the yard and fill in the areas that I have killed. It works so well. First I go to a spot in the grass that is really good. I make five or six or seven plugs, one right after the other. They fill up inside the tube. Then I go to where I want to place those and I turn it upside down. The plugs come out beautiful and separate. Then I take plugs of the dead area. I generally do this one at a time and take that plug of dirt to the hole from the good plug and fill in the hole. The holes grow right back and the plugs that I plant in the dead area, grow in quickly and beautifully. I cannot say how pleased I am. It works so well. It works 100 times better and 100 times easier than I thought it would. Tonight I went out and quickly put in 20 plugs. This really means I made 40 plugs because I made 20 plugs of good grass and then made 20 plugs in the dirt, swapping each pair of plugs. I usually take so many pictures. I’ll try to remember to add pictures to this review.

This. Things. Is. Genius.
This. Things. Is. Genius. I've used pluggers in the past and they were all a pain in the tail - clumped up, needed steel rod to unclog them, destroyed the grass plugs before they could be used. Not this plugger. The designer thought of everything to ensure plugging was pain-in-the-tail free. I cut 20 grass plugs that filled up the tube, gently dumped them out the top, and didn't ruin one. The secret is that the cutting end of the tool is slightly crimped in so that it cuts the plugs slightly smaller than diameter of the tube. That allows the plugs to easily slide out. One word of advice; have a hammer near by so that you can gently tap the rings loose when you're ready to adjust plug depth or put the plugger in storage.

Wonderful Tool!!!
We purchased Bermuda Grass plugs to fill in an area of our lawn where a tree was cut down. We purchased the grass plugs, and the plugs fit the Pro Plug exactly. Easy to use. We set up a production line with my wife (65 YO) using the plug Pro to dig the holes and I processed the grass plugs. We place a wheeled barrow close by to empty the mud plugs from the ground. The mud slips out by just turning the plug cutter upside down and tapping slightly. We both put the plugs into the holes. So Easy!! Will use it later on this summer to remove weeds from the lawn and replace the holes with fresh dirt. A+++ Worth the money!!!

Exactly as advertised. Love it!
THIS is what you need if you want to transplant plugs from your healthy lawn areas to bare areas. Of course, you'll want to add a bit of Black Cow/play sand to the area and water well. But, for functionality and practicality, you can't do better! Feels like it will last for more than a decade of rigorous use. Glad I returned the flimsy one I bought at Lowes, after I found this one on Amazon.

Great Design - Would highly recommend
Absolutely great design. It works better than expected. The foot petals are strong. It is kind of addicting to use.I have been using to plug zoysia in new area. I love how it stacks the grass plugs so you can grap we ach one from the top of the canister and put it in the new hole. It keeps feeding one to you as you plug the new hole for the plug.

Couldn't be easier!
I was afraid that I'd have difficulty digging the plugs because I'm on the small side and I was thinking I might not be able to put enough "push" on it. No problem! After stepping on it to start the hole, what gave the depth was the twisting motion. I dug fifty holes with no problem at all. It's very solid and sturdy with no assembly required.
