This 12.5mm Plossl eyepiece with 1.25" barrel diameter includes an illuminated double crosshair reticle that greatly simplifies centering celestial objects in the eyepiece for more accurate go-to alignment and tracking for astrophotography. Unlike eyepieces with single line crosshairs, the edge-to-edge double line reticle in this eyepiece doesn’t obscure small targets when centered – they remain visible in the tiny box created by the intersection of the two pairs of double lines. Reticle illumination is variable from dim to bright. The 12.5mm focal length of this cordless eyepiece provides a 40° apparent view of the sky allowing you to find objects and alignment stars more easily than shorter focal length eyepieces. The eye relief is 5mm and it features 4 multi-coated lens elements in 2 groups. The illuminator comes with standard SR-54 / LR-44 batteries.

Exclusively for star alignment
If this were an ordinary, non-reticle eyepiece, I’d complain loudly about how conspicuously it suffers from utterly horrendous blurriness/coma around the edges of the view. However, this eyepiece is apparently designed to be used as a centering guide for one's goto (or astrophotography) star alignment. In dead-on center, the image is clear. If star alignment is your intended purpose, you are in luck; if you had hoped for an eyepiece which could be used for general viewing purposes as well, look elsewhere. (According to the almost-unanimously glowing reviews on Amazon, the "20mm Agena 1.25 Wireless Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece with Focusable Dual Crosshair" has truly SUPERB quality and--unlike this one--can double as a very good general usage eyepiece. Note, however, that the 20mm version is currently nearly double the price of this one.)Or maybe I got a lemon; presumably, other reviewers (or the folks at Agena) will help me deduce the validity of my "the view is only clear in the middle" conjecture. Since I bought it STRICTLY for the purpose of goto star alignment, I am happy with it. Of course, if the folks at Agena AstroProducts believe I got a lemon, and wish to send me another one to try out, I won't turn down their kind offer, lol.WHAT I LIKED THE MOST: the double-line crosshairs light up well, and (imo) are NOT too bright when turned all the way down. <--That's a common complaint I encountered repeatedly when researching other models, such as the overpriced Orion 8450 12.5mm Illuminated Reticle Plossl, which is said to have OTHER quality issues as well. (Black specks??? Ugh! Avoid!)Furthermore, I GREATLY appreciate being able to focus the crosshairs themselves! I am EXTREMELY nearsighted, but thanks to this feature, I can adjust the reticle focus for use with or without glasses! That feature--plus the not-too-bright-at-minimum-setting double-line crosshairs--warrants a 5-star rating.
