Our cat peed outside her litter box in what I thought was a one-off scenario (all clear by the vet), but I swore I kept smelling it in the house so assumed she might have gone somewhere else that we missed, but couldn’t locate. I learned that cat urine can be detected most easily with a 365-395 nm blacklight so I decided to go with this one.I tested it with some other things around the house that I knew would fluoresce, then did a sweep on all of our berber carpet in the day time. I was surprised at how well I could see some spots glow and found the spot! During the day you really have to hold it close to the surface to see. So I also needed to do it again at night with the lights turned off to really get the best idea.The good news is it works great in the dark, the bad news is it illuminated every single spot she’s ever coughed up a hairball or thrown up, despite me always having cleaned the spots right away with a good CO2 cleaner, sometimes multiple times. Yup, carpeting really does hold on to things in a gross way and this proves it. Flashlight itself works great with one AA battery. Will definitely keep it around for any future pet “incidents.”

This is a great little UV light that is very portable and works well. Its size necessarily means it isn't as bright as larger such lights I own, but it makes up for that by being small enough to slip into a pocket or purse. The light it shines is focusable which offsets the brightness issue. Focussing it into a tight beam intensifies the UV effect. Another big plus is the ease with which one can recharge it. Everything is built-in.We live in an area that has small brown bark scorpions which on rare occasions can find their way into our house. A little-known fact: scorpions fluoresce to a bright green under UV light making them far easier to spot (Credit: Photo by Barb Backes).

I'm sitting here in my dark room, shining this little thing when I realize that I should post a review so other cat owners see this. Lately, my tabby has been peeing in places he shouldn't, and not only did this blacklight find older stains (with this thing I found out that I had been cleaning the spot above the pee stain — not the actual pee), but it also found a fresh pee stain (seriously might have to take my little guy to the vet — or just replace the floor). Cheap, but effective. A must-have for cat owners. I promise this review is not fake!!! This thing is so good at finding weird stains — not just cat pee, but other stuff that'll leave you scratching your head at how many things are also florescent. Again, cannot recommend this blacklight enough!

Overall I am happy with the product it does what it says it does.But for sure could use a bandpass UV filter, I am going to see if I can find a after market one it put inside to only the UV passes.I can confirm since it is small and low powered that for some things to show you really have to get close to the subject in question.Not great for long distance but fine for most uses.Do not get this expecting it to be as good as one of the higher powered $70+ dollar larger units.Also it does run on a single AA, it does ship with a battery but I would HIGHLY recommend getting some AA lithiums.

This light is a handy way to use 'blacklight' when you need portability, and a good deal for the low price.Sure, it would be great if it was bright over a longer distance, but that would'nt be available at this price.I found that its effectiveness definitely depends on closeness to what you are examining.It will cause fabrics etc to glow from across the room, but close examination of a surface is helped by getting as close as practicable.

Bought this to have one in each vehicle. Looks identical to one I've had for about 4 years. Has a good feel and fits in pocket nicely. We use to check for vintage Uranium glass. The 365nm unit is the best for this use.

Our new apartment reaked of old dog urine and we used this light to make a record of it with our building's property manager. Worked like a charm for it's price.

Not powerful. Battery don’t last long.But it can at least show you what fluoresces in a wink “on site” as it were. The darker the better of course.

The DARKBEAM I ordered was the two-in-one 365nm and 395nm. The quality, at least of the writing of this review, is really good, especially for the amount I paid for it. The housing itself is pretty study, and becoming a standard, it seems - I've seen a few other torches, UV and not, that have the same one. Not a big issue though, it's good quality.This torch is BRIGHT. It may be common sense, but definitely do not let the beam go near any person's eyes, I'd definitely recommend UV protection glasses if you're using it for sustained periods of time. If you're just looking to find pet stains or whatever though, you'll probably be fine without one.The zoom function is overall very useful, though with the sheer brightness of the beam, I doubt you'll need to use it too often. Using the wider range beam is probably more useful for detection of fluids and stains etc.In conclusion, I found it's worth every cent of what I paid for it, but do be warned this isn't a dinky little torch. It's a tool, and should be respected.
