Yes, however it is cheaply made and poorly machined. put the money into a good Dial indicator and use a couple pieces of hardwood.

Q: Is the plastic on the back supposed to be perpendicular to the dial probe? Mine is some 15 degrees off and seems like it's useless for measuring

It is useless! The whole tool is useless. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I turned it in to scrap and purchased a Woodpeckers Saw Gauge. A little more money but oh so worth it!
