This series of books are produced to look just like the ones which are published by Pearsons who in turn produce the real exam papers! As a home tutor, these books are useful. They are (a little) cheaper than the Pearson books but ideal for additional questions and exercises to those the students are probably being set at school.

Like most of the CGP books, this one is extremely well thought through, and its layout is exemplary.The textbooks are so comparable to Pearson’s own A Level Mathematics Edexcel books that at first I thought it was an updated edition of the older texts. Indeed, the CGP books bear a remarkable resemblance to Pearson’s own, even down to the blue front covers for Pure and brown front covers for Applied as well as the layout of the exercises, complete with challenge questions at the end of some of the chapters as well as intermittent review exercises at strategic points in the book.Setting this aside, the positives of the book are the well explained notes on the theory for every topic needed in Year 2 of the Pure Maths course, annotated worked examples and explanations, plenty of practice questions for every chapter and a complete mark scheme. As a tutor, I will be using this book to compliment my existing library of A Level maths textbooks as it is always useful to use questions that students have not seen, but if I was a student, I would pick either the Pearson books or the CGP ones, but not both as they are just so similar. In CGP’s favour, their own offering is a couple of pounds cheaper than Pearson’s.

Excellent Study Book for A’Level Pure Mathematics - Year 2. I like this series of CGP study books they are always well written. The book is designed specifically for the Edexcel exam Syllabus but can be used for other similar syllabuses as well. The book is A4 in size, approximately 1 inch thick. It is organised well into the different Topic Chapters, each Chapter having a nice colour coded heading to make it easy to find each Chapter. Each Chapter starts with an introduction to the topic and is followed by examples and there are hundreds of exercises, the answers to which are usefully stored at the end of the book. There are also two past full exam papers which is extremely useful to complete prior to the exams. An online copy of the book can also be downloaded from the link provided.

This has been essential for my Year 13 daughter - a well-motivated and independent learner, she has found the worked examples really useful. Everything is covered and, as I’d expect from CGP, it’s well written and a great support for the course. An online version being included is handy too. Clear and well laid out - just excellent.

This book ticked all the boxes, full of mathematical content, well laid out and totally over my head but just what my son said he needed, he flicked through the pages and remarked that this looks like an excellent book to train his mind.Each section is colour coded so you can easy locate the section you was on just by looking at the top edge of the book, pages are laid out well and all the answers are in the back.
