Regression Analysis by Example, 5th Edition

This is by far the best textbook on introductory regression analysis I have come across. You will not be disappointed by this book if you need to learn regression analysis, its assumptions, and how to proceed if those assumptions are violated. I particularly liked the real-life examples; a lot of regression texts out there, even though clear with the explanations, often support the theory with artificial examples that are crafted to exhibit pretty and clean results. in this text you will encounter problems and solutions from real practice, that will teach you the step by step how to set up your model, test for the assumptions, take corrective measures, if necessary, and validate the model results. The authors did an excellent job in explaining the concepts without much reliance on heavy-duty matrix algebra, although for those that are interested, they have provided a supplemental chapter at the end of the book that covers some basic linear algebra.

I have purchased this book among four textbooks for a regression analysis class, and it has set itself apart from the rest. It does a great job explaining concepts and has plenty of examples. Now that I am done with the class, it will be my only reference on the subject kept handy, outside any box! It is important to note that it has only one introductory chapter on logistic regression, so unless you are only interested in skin-deep knowledge about linear regression you may need another reference. If you are working on SAS I would recommend Logistic Regression Using SAS: Theory and Application, Second Edition

This book does a fabulous job of explaining the nuances of regression. What's more, it has even better questions that makes you really think about the regression output.Although the author touches on the non-linear models, he focuses mainly on the linear models (single and multivariate).The book could have used more samples. For example, what does the T-value for Betas represent and how are they calculated? What happens if the null value for B1 is non-zero? The book doesn't quite dig deep enough for advanced regression.Pros:1)Fabulous questions and explanations.2)Rich datasets for regression tools such as R and SAS.3)Focuses and covers linear regression very comprehensively.Cons:1)No instructions (or output) on how to use any popular regression software such as R, SAS, or Minitab.2)Most examples are provided only once. There should be more sample problems with answers.3)No answers to any of the questions at the end of the chapters.

I have used this book approximately 8 times in my statistics course. I have ascertained nothing from it other than multiple headaches and a great deal of confusion. This is due to its terrible formatting, dreadful presentations, useless explanations of material, and unreasonable questions. I cannot understand what compelled the authors to write this droning tome other than extreme hatred of students and personal self loathing.The sections border on un-readable and the tables are outdated, often missing crucial values needed to perform statistical calculations in their own textbook questions. I found better tables on Google. Sections are disorganized with tables and some concepts being presented before other concepts can be understood and sometimes after the fact. Tables are sometimes missing needed information to solve problems and you may need to look at different tables for a question that does not even recommend looking at that table.This "book" does have nice paper though. It could be useful when the toilet paper runs out. You never know how bad COVID could get...

This textbook is a very readable overview of basic and intermediate methods of regression analysis. If you're looking for a textbook that doesn't wade too deeply into linear algebra and matrix notation, this is a good choice.

I really satisfied with this book. It is very new. And by renting book, I can save a lot of money. It is a good deal!

This book just arrived for a course I am taking. I have taken multiple probability, statistics, econometric, and other applied/theory based math courses while in my undergraduate math degree program. Skimming this book I notice that the passages are well thought out and clear. There are lots of pertinent examples and the explanations are easy to grasp without needing to know how to construct proofs.The book seems very promising and I will update as I move further into the book.-A warning if you are looking to purchase a new book on Amazon. Be weary of Rent Skate:This book is definitely not new. I find it appalling that you would take a used book in good condition and try to pass it off as new (and charge me the price for a new book). There are multiple pages with passages underlined in pencil. Also, there are some corners of the hard cover that are damaged! There are also multiple pages in the back that are dog eared (folded over to mark a place)!!!!!!! Seriously! This is very unprofessional and feels like a rip off!

This is a useful book on regression. It contains many exercises throughout. Unfortunately the solutions are not provided. The book's website has solutions but they are only available to academic teaching staff. This limits the books usefulness to anyone using it for self directed learning.

it does a good job in explaining the key ideas of regression analysis. It is true that the derivations of formulae are not included, but it makes the book succinct and thin. However, I do think it is probably a good idea to include the derivation of some of the key formulae as that will help the reader in understanding the key ideas in a better way.
