Will this unit consistently and successfully shoot 1" pins in 1/2" thick white oak planks ?

No, it works ok but you get what you pay for. This is a chinese made pinner, I have two of them and they work well initially but then soon begin to malfunction. If you are doung a lot of pinning you would be better off spending a bit more for a better quality pinner.

Is it possible to adjust the depth penetration of the nail?

Yes you can adjust, but the 1 inch depth setting on mine does not countersink and the company has never responded to my email asking them how to fix it.

What size compressor is recommended?

There is no such recommendation that I can find. The manual states the tool requires 60 to 100 psi to function properly. I use mine with a small 2 horsepower, 6 gallon pancake compressor and it works well. To be honest, the pins it fires are so small, they use very little air. My compressor usually doesn't even need to turn on.

Does it have rubber tip

No it does not have a rubber tip.

Purchased this after looking in Lowes and Home Depot...this was clearly the cheepest and did what I needed done. Some of the trim on my cabinet had come off and to get someone to come in probably would have cost the same or more for what I paid for the gun. If you are like me getting one more tool in the arsenal is always a plus whether you use it one time or ten times...no case but just leave it in the box..came with a pair of safety glasses some allen wrenches, directions which were ver clear and some oil. I did foolishly enough slide the pins in the back of the sleave rather than at the top..after looking at the directions they clearly showed where they went..although this said it was going to be delivered on Tuesday with Prime I ended up getting it first thing Monday morning...took care of the task in five minutes..one could say that you get what you pay for but this feels really good in the hand and does not appear to be made of junk...time will tell but I'm not going to be using this that often so for me well worth it...purchased the micropins on here also for around eith bucks...as usual Amazon kicks butt..

You are looking at this probably with price being a major concern since most of the others on the market are twice the price. This tool will work, I've only been running it for a couple of months and cannot speak to longevity, but it will pin the trim to the wall, and wood together. So if that is what you are looking for, go ahead.
