The Freshman (Whitetail Buck) by Montana Decoy

I bought this decoy good and early before season. I wanted something inexpensive to draw a bucks attention so my son would be able to get setup on it without notice. I sprayed with scent remover and left it out in nature for a couple weeks. Folded it up morning of hunt and strapped it to my pack. Easy peasy. Once we got to our stand( on a timbered openridge I set it up about 40 yards out facing us, as the deer had to move from our left or right and not so much heading straight at us. They could sneak behind us and miss it due to its 2D shape.We had a 5 point come in and catch sight of it. It's a very submissive decoy. It didn't spook the small buck at all. We let it move on and had a few more bucks come behind us. Not long after a nice 8 point came a good 120 yards completely tuned in to that decoy. He approached with in 50 yards, stopped and inspected, and then started to circle it. It came into a shooting lane and that was the end of him. Worked like a charm and exactly how I wanted. Sold me. I will use it plenty more when the situation is right.

Always works, ready to carry into your stand. Don't bother folding and unfolding. As long as the wind speed is no more than 15mph just plop it in the ground about 30 yds from your stand giving the deer ample space to walk between you and decoy.What these decoys do is basically double, at least, the amount of time deer will stay within range for you and if you decide not to shoot then once you go home you will have been entertained and educated and enjoyed your hunt even more!

These 2D decoys work. If you read other reviews where guys say that the deer approached from the side and knew that something wasn't right, well duh. The deer approached and that is all that matters. Placement is key. I put in areas where a buck can see it from 1/4 - 1/2 mile away, and guess what? When the hear the grunts or the rattles, they see this decoy and they come to it. Play the wind. They will circle around downwind of it. Also it does fold up into small enough package that I can put it in my medium sized backpack along with all my other stuff.

This is perfect for long hauls. I used to carry a full sized deke but this is so much easier, looks great, attracts deer and relaxes them in early season. I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs in the rut. Looks great from anywhere I look and is less expensive than a full bodied and cumbersome deke!

I have the Montana Dreamy Doe, so was expecting this to be the same quality only in a buck form. First off color is way off. Frame bends and stays bent when refolding. Clips slip and broke off at first use. Hard to put poles in slots because they’re sewn poorly. Don’t waste your money on this one

The media could not be loaded. I had my doubts but totally worth $80.I have yet to use it in dense brush but on a food plot, powerline or field it’s proven itself. Buck and doe come to check it out.As soon as the deer step out they zero in on the decoy and begin investigation. I had nice 2y old 8pt fixated on the decoy for 10mins. I added a thin 6” white strip of cloth as a tail. The wind makes it flicker and adds some movement to the decoy.Placement is key. Make sure the decoy is seen broadside by deer coming to your area.

I open decoy for the 1st time folded ok. But open up 2nd time band inside the decoy twisted and decoy doesn’t fold up and when open it doesn’t even look like the decoy out of box. Call company in pa they wouldn’t fix it told me send back to Amazon but I live 20mins. Away in pa. from company. What a joke . Save your money
