Basic ICD 10-CM/PCs and ICD-9-CM Coding, 2012 Edition

Overall, this is a good, solid textbook for those learning how to code, and it is the required textbook for AHIMA's Coding Basics ICD-9 part one and two classes. It is a no-frills, no color, no pictures, way of learning ICD-9 coding, following the ICD-9-CM code book chapter by chapter. It also has ICD-10 info for every chapter, so you can see the changes all in one book. It is designed to be used with the 2012 edition of a ICD-9-CM code book. It provides many (hundreds of) chapter exercises, however *** NO ANSWERS are provided in the book. If you are taking AHIMA's ICD-9-CM Coding part 1, you are provided a downloadable/printable answer key for this book online after you register for the class. I'm not sure, but you may be able to get the answer key by calling AHIMA if you are not a student. I just finished that course through AHIMA, and got 100% on the final exam, and 98% overall for the course, and I believe this book, and the completing all of the exercises within helped me achieve that.

This is an excellant textbook that provides all of the information required for the beginning coding student. It highlights all of the essential coding guidelines, as well as providing multiple exercises that reinforce the knowledge gained through reading and lectures. I was fortunate enough to be a student of the author and my experience with her just reinforced how knowledgeable she is on the subject. I would recommend this textbook and professor to everyone.

Better price than from AHIMA. Easy to understand literature. Review and exercise questions are great for practicing coding diagnosis and procedures. I will hold on to this book always.
