Great Wrench - Great Price
* * * Update - I bought this 3 years ago. So far this wrench is holding up great! No rust, cracks or any other problems! Continue reading for the original review * * *I have had many of the floating plastic prop wrenches over the years. At best, I get 3 or 4 uses before they strip out or break. So then I went to a standard 1 1/16 deep socket and a wrench. Yep, a season later it is rusted out...So, I ran upon this and figured $20 for a 100% stainless steel prop wrench, why not. It arrived and my first thought was wow, this thing is thick and heavy duty. Take a look at the side view photo I took. No way this will bend or break. Next, I like it has the square cut out for the drain plug. The cut out is a little on the big side, but it still works fine.Lastly, I like tab washer bending tool on the opposite side of the socket wrench. I have a Mercruiser Alpha One outdrive and it currently has the Solas RBX 102 Hub Kit (similar to the older style Mercury Flo-Torq II 835257K1 or the Michigan Wheel XHS 202). All three of these use the "star" style locking tab washers. This tool easily bends the tabs up so the nut can be removed.I put the wrench on the my prop nut and the socket is plenty deep to fully seat on the nut. Also, it is deep enough to allow clearance on the side of the prop. As you can see in the photo, there is about 1/2 an inch of extra clearance on my fully tightened prop nut. As for negatives, there are none that I can find. Yes, it is much heavier then a plastic prop wrench. But it will not break when I need it most...I will do a follow up review to see how the rust resistance holds up or if there are any other issues. -Steve

This is a real prop nut tool
Tried the plastic floating variety. Total waste because they just don't have the structure to take off a nut that has been on the shaft for awhile. Very disappointing when you're drifting around out on the water and can't get the nut off to swap props. Includes a plug wrench. This one won't float like the plastic ones, so I loop a line through the plug wrench hole it and put it over my wrist before working on the prop.

Needs deeper socket
This is a nice wrench, but the socket end is not deep enough/ does not have a big enough offset to reach the nut properly on my 300hp Verado prop. The exhaust discharge edge of the prop hub blocks the wrench from reaching deeply enough to fit on the prop nut properly. You can angle it in and sort of jam it, and make it work, but it doesn't fit well. It's a great idea, but lacking that last little bit of execution for me. If the socket was about 1/2" longer it would work great, as is, it's just going into the "use if nothing else is available kit." I wanted to like it, making the wrench out of SS is a great idea, but it doesn't fit correctly for me.

Best Prop. wrench
Very well made and will not have to worry about it breaking or rusting. I had almost ordered the plastic wrench because it would not rust. But after reading reviews of the plastic wrench stripping out or busting. I decided it was no good saving a few dollars if the item would not work when needed.
