Neutrogena Anti-Residue Clarifying Shampoo, Gentle Non-Irritating Clarifying Shampoo to Remove Hair Build-Up & Residue, 12 fl. oz

This Neutrogena product has been my go-to shampoo for years and years for getting my hair back to shiny and clean-feeling. I wasn't allergic to any of the ingredients, it removed all the residues and waxy conditioner stuff, and I just loved the scent. Now it's gone forever and they have another shampoo line in its place, which I looked into. It apparently includes grapefruit to entice the folks that love the idea of "green" and organic, and according to the reviews of it, the scent is quite strong, so I have to reject it. I won't buy a grapefruit-scented shampoo. The only scent I like in hair products is lavender, a lemon scent as in the 1970s, or a true coconut smell, which is not easy to find. I have always smelled a shampoo or conditioner before I buy it if I am unfamiliar with the product. Any hint of that horrid green apple or any other fruity scents, or that awful peppermint smell that you find in nearly all the Tea Tree shampoos (which actually stings my scalp, and I'm NOT talking about the Tea Tree oil, just the mint, which I'm allergic to), and I'm outa there. Sigh.One of many items that have been great but have been discontinued. I haven't found another clarifying shampoo that does what this one did. They all leave something behind, and that's the last thing my scalp eczema wants...so, for everyone else who misses this great shampoo, I sincerely hope you find something else that works well for you. There must be something out there that I haven't found yet!I am hoping some company that does knockoffs buys the original formula and puts it out there...like one of the dollar stores. And that I find out about it somehow. They used to do that with some once-popular but finally discontinued perfumes. I'm waiting, world!Are you listening, Neutrogena? We loved the stuff! You had a dedicated clientele!I am not unwilling to try a new line of yours. But grapefruit? No, sorry. Perhaps you will offer something else in time...I can only hope.

Love this ant-residue clarifying shampoo because it actually cured the problem of hair looking greasy no matter how many times I washed it.I had tried using more shampoo, less shampoo, "for oily hair" shampoo, and different brands, but every single time it just kept drying to look as oily as before I had washed it. I resorted to applying dry shampoo to my hair after washing and drying it because it was the only thing that could make it look normal. I thought maybe I had some sort of scalp gland condition after consulting the internet, so I tried washing my hair in cold water, drying my hair with the "cool" shot on the blow dryer... these things helped a little, but not much. I read another recommendation to try a "clarifying" shampoo, and Neutrogena is a brand that I already liked, so I gave this product a try. Turns out I just had a build-up of hair care product residue, and my hair was so soft and silky once it was finally clear of all that gunk.Shampoos designed to "add" nutrients or whatever features to my hair was contributing to the problem of making it look oily. Even though dry shampoo was the only thing that could make it LOOK less greasy, it was actually making the problem worse. I would not personally use this product for every wash or recommend doing so because my hair stylist mentioned that it is stripping the hair of oil and nutrients. After all, the oils and nutrients added by the other products were not hurting my hair, just making me look gross. Using a clarifying shampoo too much may cause the opposite effect of hair becoming too dry, brittle, staticky. It works really great to use once every week or two to keep your hair from getting gunked up with too many oils and give it a break from non-beneficial styling product residue. I still use dry shampoo in between normal shampoo washes to avoid the urge to over-wash, and then just use this awesome product every so often to make sure I have gotten all of the dry shampoo residue washed out.

Excellent product price went from 6.99 to 149.00. Crazy and why so expensive? Cannot find in the stores only on line.

I am Caucasian and have dreadlocks, I read someone else having dreadlocks in the reviews and they said it cleansed well, since that was what I was looking for - and truth be told it does. It will not get all the crap out from build up like wax and shae butter and all that junk, but it will get out the weekly wear and tear of products.My only gripe is that though it is cheap if you have tons of dreads like I do, very thick hair full of volume like I do, it takes quite a bit of this product to get it all in there and let it work its magic, and due to that this stuff goes fast. The bottle is tiny, you're talking aftershave bottle tiny. I feel like I am at some hotel every time I use it, my little sample bottle of shampoo that cost me $5.I notice if you do not really get in there and let it lather it doesn't do much more than water. You have to let it lather and sit there a bit, the breakup process must take a little time because if I am in a hurry and lay it on there, work it in a little then rinse, I'll have plenty of residue left over.It is very moisturizing though and adding some aloe to those locks afterwards only compliments them. I definitely notice that my hair went from overly gunked-up tough rope like locks to soft beautiful moisturized locks and all I changed was the shampoo. I still use my lime-mango jelly to keep them pretty, the occasional water-style, and this shampoo. Even once a week, the stuff works great!Recommended for white people with dreadlocks.

love this product, is amazing is you suffer from oily scalp or build up, it's been a while since I used it but I will def buy it again

We went to the green briar hotel in white salford springs , west virginia , and they had this as a sample In the bathroom. I fell in love and it's been to go to shampoo in my house. They stupidly stop making it in 2021.So have a good product and then discontinue it.That's just dumb
