The one I see is at office on a friends desk. You can leave plugged up if you like. That would be up to you. I have gotten 3 for Christmas gifts for my grandchildren. Has directions with it in box. First time I saw it , I asked what keeps it suspended , Magnetic that is what. Hope this helps.

it did not levitate. Just sits on the bottom arm

The media could not be loaded. It's really cool, I like it, would give 5 star if it won't stick on the top whenever it touched even just lil bit. But over all it's a good gift for my teen son, though my husband like it better than him.
