Do you have to put it together?

Yes the two sides clip together. You have to push quite hard till it clicks in. Have to say I was a bit disappointed with the toy, thought it was fiddly & mane not as long as in picture. But hope you & yours enjoy it.

What is the unicorn made out of please?

Hard plastic. It is well made and for my granddaughter for xmas.
