Yes, it is normal due to the non-perfect contact between the crocodile clips and the coil. Please screw in the atomizer to measure.

Q: Is this worth the money ?

Definitely. It has a good heavy base for holding the Atty while you do a build and put your coil(s) onto it. It checks the Ohms and you can also fire the coil and get it glowing right. You can also wick it up right there on the base. I would definitely recommend this item. Mine takes two 18650 batteries and it has a built-in USB charger socket for charging the batteries if you want to.
