Adventures in Raspberry Pi

Bought for my 9 year old for Christmas to accompany the raspberry pi we also bought for her.The book has been fantastic for her. Easily understood and very well set out. She started going through it with her dad from set up, installing scratch etc but was soon flying solo and LOVING IT!Would highly recommend this book for all ages.

I love the book. I think it really is a great guide to the Raspberry Pi that children from 11 upwards could follow. My only problem is that the Raspberry Pi itself is not working terrifically with sound. I had to buy a Creative Sound Blaster card to begin to get sound to work. It may be different for you as the software is constantly upgraded and the teething problems get sorted.

Bought the Raspberry Pi basic for my grandson for Christmas and he and his dad love it - but really did need this book which has excellent projects really relevant to his age group (11 years) - and his Dad's (43 years) Grandson is doing computer studies or ITC at school and this all gives him a little extra edge.

Some of the earliest chapters more relevant to older releases of software but must happen all the time with computer books. Very easy to follow and very comprehensive. Not surprised Raspberry pi include this in their premium starter kit.

A must have for all PI owners who are interested in learning the customisation & experimentation options,

Some good projects and a well presented book. There is a kit which has all the elements you need for the projects apart from the Pi itself

It's OK. I bought this book based on all of the glowing reviews here. My son is 12 and already has some Scratch experience, so thinking this would be the perfect intro to the RPi we got to go with it.Unfortunately, much of the first chapter or two is wasted on setup of the pi (which we did together in a matter of minutes without the book) and much of the projects are really low-level introductions. He was done with the book by the end of the first day. A lot of the content canIf your son/daughter has experience already, this may be a little too basic. I can see how this would be a great book for first time (ever) with programming/computers though.

As a new purchaser of a Raspberry Pi 3, I wanted a book to get me started. Looking at some of the other books listed in this category, I eventually settled on purchasing this one. Once I started to get into it, though, examples in the book did not match up with what I saw on my screen. I originally gave the book a pass, maybe it was outdated compared to the interface changes. Later on in the Python section, I saw that the output in the examples in the book did not match up with the coding that was written on just the previous page. For instance, on one page you create a list of items. On the next page, you print that list to your screen. However, the output listed does not match the input you give on just the previous page. While the syntax was correct, the lack of detail-orientation on this kind of item makes the book fall short.In closing, I recommend passing on this book. There are too many errors like the example above to give it an honest recommendation.

Great easy to read step by step instruction... I think this book does a better job detailing the PI set up than the book that came with the PI... I cant wait for my son to get further into it... when he does I'll update the review but for now I am not disappointed.

Good book for young kids showing an interest in programming and adults looking to dip a toe in! Would highly recommend!

The chapter on Minecraft is what sold my daughter on this book. (and Raspberry Pi in general) Adventures have been easy to follow.

Great book for kids learning about the Raspberry Pi. Very well thought-out and was a hit with my kids.

Really like the narrative and how easy it is to follow along making projects.

If you have a kid that is thinking about going into computer science, pairing this book along side a raspberry Pi would be an excellent way to go. If you are looking for an easy step by step guide that will introduce you to the raspberry pi and its capabilities, this is a great choice. If you are brand new to the pi and need some help, this is a good book for you.
