Sharpens well and accurately

This is a really good product and leaves your utensils very sharp - the ceramic edge is good for filleting knives etc. It is quite big compared to other sharpeners I have had but beats them all in quality

I have had this sharpener for only a week so durability is unknown. I am the only user. Have used it on all my 'sharp' type knives with excellent effect, & keep it handy to use frequently, mainly now only to hone, after finding the correct angle & sharpening each knife. All behave well at the 18 degree setting which I will now adopt as their status quo, never having the original maker's figure.After honing with a few strokes, the blades all pass the 'single sheet of paper' test, perfectly sufficient for my culinary & jobbing needs. Scissors too, both large & small.Having extensively studied Form on all types & prices of sharpeners, this one is very simple to use as the angle setting works simultaneously across all the Vee's so having decided the angle, there's no fiddling with resetting. Seems well made & sturdy for a manual machine, in spite of some criticism by others. And I like genuine Japanese workmanship - blade knowledge & manufacture in particular - & think the higher price worthwhile for a working tool, rather than a fetishist's hobby fulfillment, or an industrial kitchen's necessity ! It works well on small straight bladed pocket knives.Cons: Setting the markings on the protractor with some unmarked fixed point on the body was a puzzle, but easily solved by a mark of Tippex above the white mark, which does not look like it's the mark point for angle setting.So far, I am very pleased, & there's not much to go wrong if the stones are kept clean & correct pressure is applied.

It sharpens knives very well

Bought it recently and I love how easy it is to use. The quality seems cheap but it sharpen my knifes pretty good and my mom seemed overly satisfied with it as her knives aren't blunt anymore. The size seems alright as you you store it away in your drawers and it's safe to use. However I wish there was a pad on the end of the sharpening blades as while sharpening your knives you'd scratch the plastic housing of the sharpner.

Too flimsy. Maybe a good idea, but poor choice of materials for the body. I would believe it was made in China, but Japan? If it was, this would be my first disappointment for the items which were made in Japan.Bought it to sharpen cheap knives. For high carbon Japanese knives I am using wet stone. It looks like it damages the blade rather than sharpening. I would return it, but there are marks of use on it made by me. The angle adjustment wheel was difficult to turn so more force was applied and wheel turned farther than it supposed to. Adjustment wheel is now misaligned from the mark and doesn't seem to want to return to the correct position. I am afraid to apply more force as it feels it would brake.The cheap knives do cut well after using it, but when inspecting the blade it looks rather damaged than sharpened. I wouldn't use it on high carbon Japanese knives.

I got this for my Japanese cleaver but it works great on normal kitchen knives too.
