Plastigauge Engine Bearing Clearance Gauge

Very good quality & a definite must when doing an engine build. Saved me a lot of money as i thought my crank shell bearings needed replacing but after i checked with plastigauge i found them to be within tolerance & still have plenty left for more engine work in the future.

Essential bit of equipment/tool during an engine rebuild, removes any elements of doubt when inspecting crankshaft journals and shell bearings. Highly recommended.

Product arrived swiftly and was as described. It is an excellent product and worked perfectly on a race engine crank by placing a short length (slightly longer than the journal) on a smear of vaseline on each journal, then clamping clean dry bearing caps to the block. On removal the Plastigauge was well adhered to the journals and clearances easy to measure with the simple supplied calibration strip. Contrary to some comments I see on various blogs, Plastigauge is an accurate way to measure bearing clearances (compared with inside and outside calipers / micrometers) as there is only one measurement per journal. The alternative, with separate measurements of journal diameter and housing bore, provises 4 opportunities for measurement error: 2 zeros and 2 readings of diameter, which add up. I speak as a professional engineer and metrologist. Cheers.
