No frills powerful cleaning (and anti-rash) soap
After encountering coal tar soap for the first time in "How to be a Victorian" by Ruth Goodman, I decided to try it out for myself, as she noted that companies were still making it, or at least reasonable copies of it.Coincidentally, when I first tried this stuff last summer, I was also dealing with some rash issues, and let me tell you, it took care of the problem noticeably even with the first shower. I also felt incredibly clean, and highly recommend it for people getting dirty out in the garden, after working on the car, or a typical day on a construction site. On that note, it is not exactly the most moisturizing of soaps, and when the crisper temperatures hit in late November, I changed hats back to more moisturizing options. Now that the warmer times are back upon us, however, I came back to this ancestral soap, and I have no regrets about my decision. The bars are slightly smaller than an average bar of Irish Spring. As Ruth notes in her book, the smell is not for everyone, a slight "hospital" anti-septic smell to it, but after you rinse off, you smell like you! This soap comes in minimal packaging and is made in Canada just outside of Toronto.

Why is there a sticker on the bare soap?
Got the soap and tried it out today. I have to say that my skin is very soft and smooth. And it seems to have taken away some itching so we will see how it does over the next few days. I was hopeful unlike the other reviews that maybe mine came without stickers on the bare soap because it was wrapped in a plastic bag but no there are stickers on the soap that are near impossible to get off. This makes no sense whatsoever! Great deal other than this.

EDIT* Coal Tar Content
At first I really didn’t think these bars contained any coal tar. After the first couple of uses I didn’t notice any benefits. After the 4th-5th use I started noticing many benefits. My skin stopped being extremely itchy and flaky and I started to notice my psoriasis started to clear up and flair up less often. I highly recommend giving this soap a try especially considering the price per bar.

works wonderfully
Bars are smaller, more for sinks than bath or shower but do work. As for usage, works great!! have always had oily skin and this cleared it up right away. also works well on flaky, dry skin and dandruff. word of caution though. this will dry skin and could be hazardous in very cold weather. use some type of lotion to prevent chapping or cracking skin in winter.

It's just a soap bar.
I got on the tar craze, tar toothpaste, tar toothbrush to get your tartar off! tar filters for your tar tea.Well, this Tar Soap is just soap in my opinion. It'll clean you. But just don't buy it because it's TAR.The scent isn't much of anything.I made up the tar tea; the rest was real. Oh, wait. I'm thinking charcoal. Whatever this doesn't smell like anything.
