good book, but could use an update. not for beginners.
Yes, a lot of material in this book can be found online as well. And yes, you already need to have knowledge and experience with e-mail and Linux so it's not for real beginners either. Still, I like this book, to get a a better picture of how Exim works, to get a better overview, and as a reference guide (index in the back!).The book could use an update, though.. hopefully there's a newer version available than the one I bought in 2008.

Essential if you're running an Exim mailserver
Whilst documentation for Exim is freely available on the website there is no substitute for having the book sat on your desk in front of you. This book is extremely well written and well organised, the index will take you straight to the information you require and from that other relevant topics continue on subsequent pages. Peter Hazel's authoring skills are very much like his software engineering - pretty damn good!Having been running Exim servers for 3-4 years this book is a well worn addition to my library. If you're involved in configuring, maintaining or administering Exim mailservers then it should be a central part of yours too.

Comprehensive
I came from Postfix and was looking for a comprehensive reference.Using the book and the excellent documentation at exim.org I was able to get up and running pretty quickly.Granted the book is now a bit out of date - it doesn't cover topics such as SPF or DKIM which Exim now features, but you can find a great deal of info for these on various internet forums. As for the core concepts/features the book is still very relevant and I now use my very dog-eared copy as a goto first reference.

Fantastic book
how to start with this book? if you are wondering how to configure an email server after having tried several times but failed to get all the concepts working together to produce an email system then buy this book. Eventhough the book is about an email MTA mail transfere agent but also has some explaination about the client side, such as pop3. for most the book is talking about sending mail using exim. This book will make you understand how the email system as whole work together and it also explains in details how to configure the Exim MTA.It is worth every peny spent on it and it is a book i will be using very often. I highly recommend this book

Good tutorial
This is a very easy book to pick up and get Exim to work in almost any environment, but alas the lack of a proper reference section does make it more difficult to subsequently fine tune the configuration.

This is not an idiots guide to Exim!
I bought this book as it is the only one on the subject, kindly written by the author of Exim itself. Its extremely informative, however it is written in a rather generic way. It is at a higher level than I was looking for as a beginner.I am sure this book will prove useful once I am more experienced using Exim, but I was not able to work out how to configure using it as a novice, for that I found turorials on the internet.File names and locations are not clear when reading for reference. If you are an Exim user and have a bit of spare change its worth the money, but dont expect an easy ride.

Past the sell by date
This was an excellent book at the time, but doesn't cover various anti-spam facilities introduced to Exim 4.5. Don't buy this book, get the second edition instead (look for the diagonal banner across the front).
