On the Inspiration for The Only Thing to Fear

I've always been a history nerd, and I've always loved thinking about historical "What If's?" What if Lincoln had never been shot at Ford's Theatre? What if Rome had never fallen to the Vandals? Or what if the Nazis had won WWII and colonized the United States? This last question really got me thinking. I started imagining a girl growing up under a terrible regime, where Nazis soldiers patrolled her Virginian town and where Hitler's grandson resided at the White House. I began writing about this girl, and soon this idea turned into the early draft of The Only Thing to Fear.
