Q: what is the outer material?

It would seem to be medium/light weight synthetic upholstery material. It has a certain amount of stretch as the internal high density foam is slightly compressed when inside the zipped cover. Overall, quite a pleasing, attractive and practical finish.

Q: Is the grey one and the black one the same product - just different colours?

The grey foot rest cushion has a smooth velour cover whereas the black office foot rest has a non-slip textured surface cover.

Q: Where is this manufactured?

I never paid attention, but its well made and very good quality.

Q: Does this squish down when you put your feet on it, what height does it squish to? I’m looking for a footrest to use with a sofa.

It is quite firm and probably goes down about an inch, I have mine under my computer desk and I wouldn't be without it now! Brilliant bit of kit!
