Bought one a few years ago and within 6 months the lid kept sticking, it was replaced under guarantee and we were told it was a common problem and had been "fixed" by SMEG. Since then the replacement lid has got stiffer and stiffer and the lid seal near the handle has deformed, allowing a jet of hot steam to burn your hand if you are not careful. I wrote to SMEG a couple of times to advise them of this design flaw and got automated responses. For such an expensive kettle I think you would get much better value from Russel Hobbs et al.
