Amazing Value (queen size mattress and the medium-soft topper by same company)
General Reaction:I've only owned 2 mattresses before this one: a "Dormia" cal-king memory foam that I purchased ~$800 back in late 2000's and an "the organic mattress store" medium firm organic natural latex queen mattress ($3148!!!) in 2015. Compared to both of those mattresses, at < $800 this mattress is an unbelievable value!Firmness:I weigh over 200 lbs and if I press down on one knee it almost bottoms out on this mattress. I would describe this as "soft", but this is the worst part to buying mattresses online as it is highly subjective. Also, maybe this is just me, but if you've previously owned "firm" memory foam mattresses, I would recommend ordering less firm natural latex. To me, natural latex is less forgiving than memory foam and may effectively feel firmer since it doesn't conform to your shape as much. Also, I've been told by the "organic mattress store" that over time natural latex slightly hardens, so keep that in mind too.Comfort:With the mattress AND topper combined, this mattress makes the old "medium" firm organic mattress I owned previously feel like a cement block! For the amount spent, I couldn't be happier. I am almost in disbelief at the cost being so cheap for such a quality product.Smell:There is an earthy smell, almost like sheep's wool. Some don't like this smell, but to me it doesn't smell toxic or dangerous. It is the usual smell of natural latex and I actually kinda like it! If you don't like it, I imagine it could be covered up with heavy blankets, but maybe buy a small natural rubber product and smell that first to be sure you're okay with sleeping on something that has that odor.Weight/Durability:This is a solid mattress (not broken up into separate twins like the organic mattress store sold me). The downside is it is more awkward to move, but comfort is superior without a split down the middle. It is certainly thinner than traditional boxsprings and comes in a zipper jacket for washing. My previous organic mattress has held up very well, and I don't see any reason this one won't last a lifetime. The best part to natural latex is it's a very solid design that won't degrade easily. You're buying a fat chunk of rubber!Overall, if you purchase this mattress with the topper, I think most will be happy. On it's own, if you're heavy set like me, it might be a little thin and soft to where you might feel the surface below. If you're under 200 LBS, then perhaps the mattress alone without a topper might work. I like toppers though as you can swap them out really easily and they protect the mattress underneath.

Excellent deal for a quality latex mattress
I shopped around for a long time looking for a good value on a king size latex mattress. I already have a queen size Flobeds but I wanted to size up and the Flobeds king is out of my budget now. The $1500 we paid for the SOL feels like a steal: extremely good value for a highly quality latex mattress. My fiancé and I moved into together and she brought her Puffy memory foam king sized mattress, I brought my Flobeds talalay queen. My Flobeds is still the best mattress I have ever slept on, the 9inch medium firm with a 3 inch Temperpedic firm memory foam topper. We ended up sleeping in her room most nights because a queen was a tight fit with both of us but eventually my back started to complain so I started shopping around. It’s a much firmer bed than my fiancé is used to so we added a Temperpedic 2inch soft memory foam topper to add some squish. The SOL mattress comes in one solid piece, unlike the Flobeds which is modular and it is extremely heavy. After it was unwrapped it immediately opened into its full shape and had zero odor. I’m extremely sensitive to smell and I’m grateful we could sleep on it the first night. We both love this new bed. She’s not a fussy sleeper anyway, but agreed that this was a huge step up from the too-soft memory foam. My back is so much happier. I will never sleep on anything but a latex mattress for the rest of my life if I can help it. We are keeping the Flobeds mattress for our spare bedroom, and I still prefer that mattress. It could be sentimental opinion talking, but the springiness feels different between the two. Not a deal breaker and maybe after this mattress breaks in for 3 years like the Flobeds I’ll have the same affection for the SOL.

An overall excellent choice.
I have used the mattress for almost a year now.* The mattress cover is a lot whiter and softer than some of the product photos suggested.* It had a quite strong latex smell that gradually reduced over a couple of months. My wife seemed to be bothered by the smell more than me.* It is heavy and difficult to handle as there is no handles on the cover. If there were handles, most likely it would be torn off by the weight anyway.* Before the purchase I knew the mattress had three latex layers: a 2" soft top layer, a 2" median middle layer, and a 4" hard bottom layer. I thought if the mattress was too heavy to handle down the road, I could purchase two 4" mattress covers, put the top two layers in one and the bottom layer into another, so I could deal with half the weight at a time. However, it turned out that all three layers are glued together.* For me, weight 160lb and mostly a back sleeper, the softness is about right. For my wife, weight 120lb and more of a side sleeper, it is a little hard when sleeping on the side.* I recommend pairing it with an adjustable bed frame for even better weight distribution and support.
