VII

I saw Blitzen Trapper in concert this year and they really impressed me. I went out and bought almost all their albums at once. Some of the records hit me harder than others, but I'd heard this one - their newest - was "weirder" than the others, so I was a bit apprehensive. I needn't have worried. It's a bit of an oddball album, especially the rap elements of "Oregon Geography" and "Neck Tats, Cadillacs," but it all weirdly holds together. Nothing seems really out of place, and VII becomes one of Blitzen Trapper's most cohesive albums. Highly recommended.

It is impossible to pin one style on these guys! Every album of theirs has a different feel, but still its unmistakable who you are listening to. They have not yet tried a style they haven't done well. They make each album a journey into the unknown, yet it all feels like familiar territory. I never know what I'm going to get from this band, but I'm always happy with the results. Good, fun, group of songs.

This feels like a directional change. It took a couple of listens, and suddenly I found myself giggling and trying SO hard not to sing out loud AND dance in my cubicle (earbuds in/corporate world out). I totally dig the band's foray into the unconventional world of alt-country hip-hop. Fist bump for following the dream, no matter what dreams may come. Looking forward to seeing them live!

These guys have made several great albums (I have every song they've released), but I'm disappointed in this one. It steers toward samples and funk with few catchy melodies. The songs sound like they went through heavy instrument layering (and sampling) that can't hide the lower song quality. This isn't a rant against artist evolution, it's a rant against weaker song writing.

I bought this for a few of the tunes. The album altogether is pretty good. I like their style. Feel the Chill, Valley of Death and Thirsty Man are my favorite tracks

Fantastic production, hooky stories and Buffalo Springfield/Byrds/Beatles/ Band roots blended in fresh ways. Love the guitar touches that echo the vocals.

This band continues to revive 70's rock with a folksy twist. The is one garbage track on this album Oregon geography but other than that track this is a fantastic album. Furr is still their best album but this one definitely satisfies!

Liked it 'out of the box,' but really grew on me after a few listens... lots of subtleties and nuance - layers of sound with the typical good lyrics. Def my new favorite band since mid-2012! No complaints.
