Could it be mounted on the top and flip a door up?

You can try but they do not have a spring and will not stay in the open position.

Can you have the door open downward? So the door ends up on the bottom of the cabinet?

I guess you could. It's not intended for that. The door would have to be 24-35 in. wide.

When open, what is the distance between the wall and the back of the cabinet door?

It will open flush with the front of the cabinet. If that cabinet is set into the wall then the distance would be zero.

Do you make something like this that could work with a full-sized door, like for a closet or office?

They actually do, LIN-X1000 Heavy Duty Lateral Door Hinge.
