If you use the leads with an oscilloscope, once you clip the leads to a signal source and ground, the two jaws on the Red clip are shorted together (and same for the Black clip). So the "Signal" will be present on two of the BNC connectors, and "Ground/Common" will be present on the other two BNC connectors. The two "extra" BNC connectors could be connected to other equipment, such as a Frequency Counter, etc.
