Yes. This should fit your downspout. It is rubber/flexible. So you will need to squeeze it in order to insert it into the smaller hole that you make the downspout & then it will expand & fill the space. Even if it is 1/2 in wider than you downspout, the sides will just form a deeper "bowl" to catch the water. I have been very happy with how mine is functioning and just purchased another unit to use with my new rain barrels.

Take a look at this one. It goes through the side and not the face. I have TWO and they both work better than the "Face" one. Q: Is it normal for a barrel top to overflow despite having the diverter installed during especially intense downpours?

Make sure the diverter and the hole in the side of the container are on the same horizontal plane to minimize any issue with water not being able to transfer easily. Is it possible that the force of the water and water volume might overwhelm the diverter, perhaps. But the opening in the diverter to the hose to the container is the limiting factor for water being able to get to the container.

Q: How to extend the pipe?

Just pull it end from end. It’ll make a popping noice as it is extended
