Is this a good choice for me if I don't have a great knowledge of modular synthesizers, I mean something to use to learn ?

I feel it is a great introduction to modular synthesis. The manual is well written and offers patch ideas to get you familiarized with the patch bay and how to utilize it. Also, you don't need to use the patch bay at all to make great sounds.

How do you program the sequencer part?

You have a live record function that tracks your playing and inputs them as steps in the sequencer ( IE if you hold a note for more than one beat it plays back as a single note unless you use the hold button ) its a little frustrating. But normal for a step based sequencer. Or... you can input each step one step per note and easily add your holds and rests, much more like writing music out on sheet paper. All in all great synth, get two and stack your oscillators or integrate into mudular rig for richer / more complex sounds.

Can I rack mount this unit with rack ears?

Not directly, it's not the right width and there's no mounting accessory like the rack kit for the Minitaur. However, Mother-32 is eurorack-compatible, you just need to take it out of its case. So, you can find any rack-mountable case for eurorack modules and it will work.

Can you attach a usb keyboard to this unit? can you connect a korg volca beats to it as well?

No you cannot attach a USB to it per say as it does not have a USB out, it does however have a MIDI in so you can control it directly from a keyboard with a midi out. If you want to use a keyboard that requires USB then simply connect the MIDI from the Mother 32 to your computer and your USB keyboard to the computer and map it as your control surface in your DAW. You can connect a Korg Volca Beats to it through the sync in and out (on the korg) and the external instrument jack on the Mother 32.

Fun, great sound, awesome sequencer - your best first analog or semi modular!

Okay, I have been hesitant to buy this since day one. Now I feel stupid for waiting so long. I already own an 0-Coast and thought this would be simple and limited in comparison. Wrong again! There are so many things I like about this. Manual is beautiful, but could use a little work in some areas. Sound is fantastic and it is quite versatile. Sequencer is tons and tons of fun. Midi just works.This is a great unit to learn synthesis, make music and to grow with. It is a fantastic compliment to my 0-Coast too. Oh, and those classic Moog sounds... they are here you Lucky Man. Looking back I should have bought this first and long ago. Oh, and if someone complains about a single oscillator being a limitation, I say blah blah blah. A creative and industrious person will find a millions things to do with this. Enjoy!

Love it

Awesome synthesizer. There are plenty of patch options and lot of functions on the sequencer. It sounds awesome. One could wish for a second oscillator like the Minitaur, but then the price would be a bit more too. Since it's Eurorack compatible, you can add another oscillator if you are going to use this in a skiff and build on it with other modules. If you want a bass synthesizer though that is stand alone, then perhaps the Minitaur is the way to go. The sequencer does call for a lot of shift-functions and a lot of the buttons have double-functions. There are some good YouTube tutorials on it, though, and I was able to get used to it. Of course, you can use iwt with an esternal controller and sequencer and not use the onboard one at all. It is nice to have it though.

Good starter instrument for modular

Mother 32 is a good intro into modular synths because it has everything you need to get started. Which means that no matter what you have for your other gear, you will always have the capability for a full synth voice.The sounds you can make with it are great, mostly thanks the that classic moog filter. Its especially great for basslines.The problem i have with it though is that its a little boring and basic once you have other synths. Its nice to have it there but you will probably be patching into other stuff once you get a few more synths.

The superior Moog sound

The superior Moog sound, quality, and aesthetics in an affordable, semi-modular eurorack format. I recommend getting at least two of them for maximum patch-ability.

Moog discovery machine

Not really for beginners unless experienced with synths, modular, or willing to experiment. Meant to be melodic but not for those looking for multiple voices without tinkering. Amazing Moog sound as usual, found mine used on this site and able to get it hooked up to Arturia Keystep Pro and patching with Werkstatt for more adventure. Try one out and go from there is all I can say!

Moog does the job

Been using it for a week now and so far I do love it. The sound is what you would expect from a Moog unit without being too complicated to use so that it remains pleasant.Also great follow up from the seller, would gladly buy from them on the future.
