Q: Does the siphon filter sediment?

This is designed for the pick-up tube to rest just off the bottom, the sediment if not disturbed should remain on the bottom. We have made a cheese cloth attachment to add to the fluid exit side of the tubing to ensure no sediment is transferred.

Q: Is the wine bottle filler too long to use on 12 oz beer bottles?

No it works great. I use it for beer bottles when making hard cider.

Q: What kind of material is the pump made of?

Glass and plastic, I have been using it many years to pump wine from the 1st fermenter into the 2nd and then into bottles.
